Talk:Dental braces
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
== On the cheap .. pulling teeth == binbin There should be a mention of the short cut most dentists take when on the cheap - pulling teeth and pulling back the front teeth and forcing the lower jaw to the rear. It give the person a forever teenage chin and damages the jaw. It creates a tendon complication called ??. You have to look for dentists that will not do this.

- Removing teeth and then pulling front teeth back doesn't sound cheap or easy. --Hanina
Just curious - shouldn't this be labelled under 'orthodontic brace'? Once one moves into having braces, it's under the heading of orthodontia, and no longer dentistry.
It's about teeth,so it is "dental braces".Ahem...can you sign with four tildes?203.124.2.14 12:39, 12 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image
I changed the main picture on the page to one that is more informative and a lot less disgusting. It illustrates the application and form of braces much better than the original and isn't quite as disturbing. Waqcku 19:35, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ceramic Braces
Is it really necessary to include the picture of a man with ceramic braces? I don't find it helpful. A picture with someone with metal braces might be.

She's not an adult... 130.253.5.159 00:12, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
- those pictures of that person's teeth are pretty intense:-4.36.45.2 13:07, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Emily
[edit] Foul Langauge
"the oldest person to get braces was Ryan Hammonds, who at age 17, on april 24th will recieve the sure to kill his game. But he will still get more "ASS" then ryan czerk.????
WHY IS THERE FOUL LANGUAGE IN THIS ARTICLE I THINK ITS VANDILISM AND IM DELETING IT IF YOU SAW THIS AND THEN LOOKED AT THE ARTICE AND FOUND NOTHING I DELETED IT.
[edit] reorganize this topic
Brackets are just a tool in orthodontic therapy. In this article there is a lot of confusion, it seems that braces and orthodontic therapy are the same thing. For example: "Typical cost of braces in the United States is about 5,000 USD".I think the whole topic should be reorganized and many parts discussed in other topics.
[edit] This is ambiguous, what is the differnence between dental arch and dental palate?
In the main article it says: "An expander can still be used on an adult without surgery, but to expand the dental arch, and not the palate." The drawings in dental arch and palate show the almost the same thing.
[edit] Those teeth
argg they are freeking me out please remove them as they will haunt them for the rest of my life :O
if u think that those are freekng u out look at the teeth on the root canal page
Excuse me but this a talk page trying to make this article about (the name is somewhat disputed right now so this might not be accurate) braces. This is not a blog or a message board. I repeat, this is NOT a blog or a message board on which you can make rude, innapropriate or unwanted comments about what those teeth in the picture look like. I have ssen them also an i know where your coming from. I am not trying to sound like some stuck up old person who says stuff like "hey you kids, get out of my lawn!" and the hype but please, if you want to make comments like that, PUT THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! and one more thing sign your posts please! if you are going to do that kind of thing than at least show who you are! Thank you.Binglebongle2000 12:36, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- You're no better. He was asking for a better image, and suggesting a removal. You were being a troll. Note the difference. --81.97.192.106 20:37, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] fetishes
There used to be a reference in the braces in popular culture section to braces being a fetish for some people. However, this reference, as well as the separate article on fetishes (as well as it being listed in types of fetishes) has been removed. Why?
[edit] Find a different picture
Can we please use a different picture? I'm sure there are plenty of other pictures that properly illustrate braces without being so, erm, confronting. We don't want to be scaring away young, potential braces candidates here. --Candy-Panda 06:36, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
See people above on the "those teeth" article, if you want to say those kind of things, follow candy panda's approach. Thank's! :-)Binglebongle2000 12:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Are dental braces therapeutic?
Has any medical benefit been claimed from this procedure, or is it a purely cosmetic practice akin to head binding? 70.15.114.2 (talk) 00:11, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- My mother told me that crooked teeth allowed plaque to jump from one tooth to the other more easily and that was why I should have braces... Not sure how true that was though ;) --86.152.125.77 (talk) 01:39, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Temperature-sensitive materials
Hi. I'm no expert, but wile reviewing revent edits, I came across this change made on 18 April. Part of the change removed some interesting material regarding temperature-sensitive materials. The following is an excerpt of the removed/reworked content.
Modern orthodontics makes frequent use of nickel-titanium archwires and temperature-sensitive materials. When cold, the archwire is limp and flexible, easily threaded between brackets of any configuration. Once heated to body temperature, the archwire will stiffen and seek to retain its shape, creating constant light force on the teeth.
If this is accurate, could someone with more expertise than I integrate it back into the article? Thanks. -- 02:11, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
