Denver West Side Jewish Community

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The West Side community is the oldest Jewish community in Denver, CO. The community was the traditional Jewish community in Denver, but is now being occupied by a growing Hispanic population. It is a traditional, Haredi community with its own eruv. The community follows Ashkenazi Jewish traditions as set forth by the Litvak Jewish tradition, that of Lithuanian Judaism. The West Side of Denver runs through the neighborhoods such as Sun Valley, Villa Park, West Colfax, Edgewater, Colorado, Sloan Lake, Spivak, and Jefferson Park. In the last 10 to 15 years the West Side neighborhoods of Denver have been slowly run down and experienced serious Urban Decay. The West Side of Denver runs from West 20th Avenue and Federal Blvd. to West 6th Avenue and Wadsworth Blvd.

The community is centered around the Denver Community Kollel, congregation Zera Avraham, Yeshiva Toras Chaim, and a girls' school, Bais Yaakov.

The community is located on Colfax Avenue in the Sloan's Lake neighborhood.
