Denver Larks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Denver Larks was briefly the name of a charter member of the American Basketball Association.
When the ABA was founded in February 1967 a franchise was awarded to Kansas City, Missouri. Unable to obtain an adequate arena lease, the team was relocated to Denver, Colorado and on April 1, 1967 was christened as the Denver Larks. Team ownership changed hands and in June of 1967 the team was renamed the Denver Rockets in homage to the new owner's trucking company.
The team competed in the ABA as the Denver Rockets from 1967 through 1974 when the team became the Denver Nuggets for the ABA's final two seasons and from 1976 to the present as a member of the NBA after the ABA and NBA merged in June 1976.
