Dentalium nanum is a tusk shell of the family Dentaliidae, endemic to New Zealand waters. It is found around both the North and South Islands from the Three Kings Islands at 180 m, to Fiordland at 290 m.
The shell is narrow and slightly curved, gradually tapered to a fine point, and sculptured with longitudinal ribs that are variable in strength and in number, ranging from 7 to 11.
Length is up to 37.7 mm, and width at the anterior aperture up to 3 mm.
