Denny Somach is a Grammy Award recipient, author and producer for radio and television.
After a successful career as a radio announcer and programmer at Philadelphia radio station WYSP-FM, Somach formed Denny Somach Productions.
The company is resposable for ceating and producing radio programming including Legends of Rock, The Rock of Your Life, Live from the Hard Rock Cafe (NBC); Rolling Stone Magazine’s Continuous History of Rock and Roll (ABC); Scott Muni’s Ticket to Ride, The Rock of the Century, The Classics, and Bill Clinton’s “Giving Radio Show.”
Somach also developed and supervised numerous television productions including music segments for Evening/PM Magazine and The Rock and Roll Show. He is the co-creator of Friday Night Videos (NBC) and was a contributor to the long-running syndicated music show Solid Gold.
Denny Somach was an original consultant to MTV, and was in charge of organizing the channel’s News Department and produced their first outside program, The News That Rocked ’81. Phil Collins hosted the 1983 version and Julian Lennon made his television debut as host of The News That Rocked ‘84.
Somach developed and co-hosted his own weekly concert series, Hot Spots, on the USA Networkand served as the general manager of Turner Broadcasting's Cable Music Channel, which was sold to Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment and became VH1. Currently, Denny is a Music & Entertainment contributor to Comcast’s CN8 network.
Somach initiated and conducted high end merchandising for three Rolling Stones worldwide tours, VooDoo Lounge, Bridges to Babylon and No Security. He also created and executed the merchandising on behalf of the Beatles for their Live at the BBC and Anthology releases.
In the field of record and video production, Somach has worked with Johnny Winter, Yes, Todd Rundgren, Alan Parsons, Pete Bardens, Dave Mason, Asia, Mick Fleetwood, Justin Hayward, Patrick Moraz, Barbara Mandrell and others. Denny Somach is the Executive Producer of Eric Johnson’s aural masterpiece, Ah Via Musicom. The RIAA-certified Platinum album features the 1992 Grammy Award winning song, Cliffs of Dover.
A recognized rock and roll authority, Somach has appeared on numerous television shows, including: The Today Show, Larry King Live, The Early Show on CBS, The Home Show, The Joan Rivers Show, Dateline NBC, CNN’s Moneyline, Showbiz Today, The Big Breakfast (UK) and other programs. He is also the author of Ticket to Ride (Wm Morrow & Co. 1989) and Meet the Beatles.....Again (1995).
Denny is a member of National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and was elected to the Board of Governors in 2004. Somach received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He currently lives in the Philadelphia suburbs.
