Dennis Wade Awtrey (b. February 22, 1948 in Hollywood, California) is a former professional basketball player. A 6'10" center from Santa Clara University, Awtrey was drafted by the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers in 1970. He played in the league for twelve seasons, spending time with the 76ers, Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics, and Portland Trailblazers. Awtrey had his finest season in 1974-1975, when he averaged 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds as a member of the Suns.
Awtrey sometimes played the role of enforcer,and once punched Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the face.
