Contents

[edit] Commercial Area

Denistone East's only retail area is 'Midway', a small strip of retail premises including a combined newsagent & post office, fruit shop, supermarket grocer, butcher shop, chemist, video store, barber, betting shop (TAB), Italian restaurant, bakery and petrol station that cater for the local community. However, Denistone East is located near Macquarie Centre, a large regional shopping centre and nearby suburbs have larger commercial areas such as Eastwood, West Ryde and Ryde including the soon to be opened Top Ryde City, which are all within 2-3 km of Denistone East.

[edit] Schools

Denistone East Public School is a large local primary school educating over 800 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 which was rebuilt in 2005 with completely new administrative, assembly and classroom blocks. The school was established in 1950, when the new railway station was established and a new suburb was forming.

[edit] Landmarks

Denistone East is centred at the intersection of Cecil Street, Lovell Road, Quarry Road and North Road, where the local shopping centre (Midway) is situated. These roads converge into an elongated figure of 8 roundabout.

[edit] Transport

At present the suburb is served exclusively by Sydney Buses (STA) services. Route 286 and peak hour routes 297 and X18 operate from the Midway shops to the Sydney CBD and routes, while routes 542 and 544 pass through the Midway shops travelling between Auburn and the city, and 518 and X18 between Macquarie University and the city. Routes 515 and X15 operate along the Blaxland Road corridor.[citation needed]

On 18 March 2008 the New South Wales Government announced that a metro station would be built at Denistone East, opening in 2017, as part of the North West Metro.[1] No further details have been announced as to the station's location or features.
