Later, Plutalov continued his studies at the Russian Gnessins Academy of Music with Maria Gambaryan (1995-1999) and Igor Nikonovich (2000-2001). During his Moscow years (1995-2002), Denis Plutalov extensively performed in major concert halls such as the Grand Hall of the Gnessins Academy and the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. In 1999 he became a diploma winner at the First International Franz Liszt Competition (Wrozlaw, Poland)

Since 1993, Denis Plutalov extensively concertizes in Russia, Europe and in the United States. He is a frequent guest at such international music festivals as the International Rachmaninoff Festival in Tambov and Ivanovka, where he frequently performed for twelve years (1990-2002).

Since his arrival to the United States in 2002, Denis Plutalov has performed extensively across the country. In 2005 and 2006, he played and recorded all the Twenty-Four Preludes and Fugues of Dmitry Shostakovich in Winston-Salem, NC and in Lincoln, NE.

Aside from solo and chamber performances, Denis Plutalov performed with various symphony orchestras, among them Greensboro Philharmonic and NCSA Symphony.

Denis Plutalov received his Master of Music degree in 2004 and his Professional Artist Certificate in 2005 from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Now he continues his doctoral studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. His teachers include Eric Larsen and Mark Clinton.

His performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's 24 Preludes & Fugues has earned him an international recognition.

[edit] Quotes about Plutalov

Plutalov generated huge sonority with little apparent physical exertion. In this we were reminded of “golden age” pianists such as Earl Wild or Luiz Carlos de Moura Castro, to name only two who played in Chapel Hill-Durham area. He had his own conception of this concerto, which he pursued with unrelenting determination that swept the listener along with its wake.-William Walker, Classical Voice of North Carolina, December 2003
