Denis Hill-Wood
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Denis John Charles Hill-Wood (June 25, 1906 – May 4, 1982) was an English cricketer and football club chairman.
Hill-Wood was the second-youngest of four brothers who took part in first-class cricket for Derbyshire, the others being Charles, Wilfred and Basil Hill-Wood. His father Samuel was chairman of Arsenal F.C. for twenty years, as well as a first-class cricketer, while Denis' son, Peter, played one first-class match in 1960.
Similarly to his father, Denis became chairman of Arsenal F.C. in 1962, a job which he held until his death in 1982.
A bust of Denis used to stand inside the Directors Landing of the East stand at Arsenal Stadium but since Arsenal F.C. left Highbury, the bust has been in storage and a location for the bust at Arsenal F.C.'s new stadium Emirates Stadium will be decided soon.
