Denis Bouriakov

Denis Bouriakov (ARAM) is the principal flautist of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland. Bouriakov has won prizes at some of the world’s most prestigious international flute competitions, including the second prize in Jean-Pierre Rampal Competition (2005), the 2nd prize in Aurele Nicolet Competition (2006), the 2nd prize in Carl Nielsen Competition (2002), as well as prizes in Kobe Competition in Japan (2001) and at the Munich ARD Competition in Germany (2004).
One of his latest achievements is a CD recording with William Bennett and English Chamber Orchestra, where he plays as a co-soloist. Bouriakov has also been William Bennett’s teaching assistant in his 2004, 2005 and 2006 Summer Schools in Farnham, England and is invited again to assist both in Chicago for Summer 2007. After his graduation in 2004, gaining a record 99% mark and DipRAM diploma for an outstanding Final Recital, the Royal Academy of Music has awarded Bouriakov the Principal’s Award and the Fellowship for 2004-2005 academic year, which included Principal Study teaching on Postgraduate level and giving classes for the Academy’s students. He is currently holding a teaching position in Tampere Conservatory of Music in Finland. In February 2006, Bouriakov has been awarded Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
Bouriakov was born in 1981 in Crimea. In 1991 he was given a place at the Moscow Central Special Music School, where he studied with professor Y.N. Dolzhikov. Since the age of 11, Bouriakov has been playing in Russia's premier concert halls, such as the Big Conservatoire Hall, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Bolshoy Theatre, and “Rossiya” Concert Hall. With the support of the “New Names” international charity program and Vladimir Spivakov’s foundation, he played as a soloist in concert tours to over 20 countries in Europe, Asia, South America and the US. After his graduation from the Moscow Central Special Music School in 2000 he went on to study with Professor William Bennett in London. During these years Bouriakov won many prizes at International Competitions and gave concerts both as a soloist and as an orchestra player. He took part in PMF Festival in Japan (2003), the Tunnel Trust Easter School in Scotland (2004) and Santander Music Festival in Spain (2004) and has been accepted to Verbier Festival Orchestra starting in the Summer 2006. Bouriakov has performed as a soloist with many orchestras, among which are the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, “Moscow Virtuosos”, Prague Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble of Tokyo, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble of Paris and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra.
As an orchestra player, while being in London, Bouriakov often played concerts as a Principal Flute with London Philharmonia, Leeds Opera North, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and Russian Orchestra of London.
Bouriakov has given recitals in the British Flute Society Convention in York in 2004 and 2006, a Headliner Recital in the National Flute Association Convention in San Diego in August 2005.He is invited again both to NFA 2007 convention and BFS 2008, as well as to Tokyo Flute convention in August 2007.
