Deng Mao

In the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, Deng Maowas a high ranking Yellow Turban officer[1]. Deng Mao accompanied Cheng Yuanzhi on an expedition against Han imperial forces. The Yellow Turban force was said to be 50,000 strong. The enemy was comprised of just 500 volunteers led by Liu Bei, and his sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Liu Bei taunted the Yellow Turbans, so Cheng Yuanzhi sent Deng Mao forward to give battle. Liu Bei sent out Zhang Fei to meet him, and after one blow Deng Mao was killed. The Yellow Turbans would soon go on to lose the battle.
