Den blomstertid nu kommer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Den blomstertid nu kommer is a Swedish language song, published by Israel Kolmodin in 1695. In 1819, Johan Olof Wallin published a new version and a third version was published by Britt G Hallqvist in 1979. It is a Christian song about summer, and is often sung when the schools in Sweden close for the summer holiday. A way to make it a non-religious song is to only sing the first verse. The song was sung at the funeral of the former Prime Minister of Sweden, Tage Erlander, in Ransäter, Sweden on July 1, 1985. Because the song often is sung when the schools in Sweden close for the summer holiday, it referred to the development of the Swedish education system when Tage Erlander was the Prime Minister of Sweden (1946-1969). Swedish rock group Ultuma Thule has recorded the song. Swedish heavy metal group Black Ingvars redorded the song on their 1999 album "Heaven Metal".

There is also a Finnish version of the song, called Jo joutui armas aika. It is the hymn number 571 in the Finnish hymn book and is probably the most well-known hymn in Finland. The song was at the first time translated into Finnish in year 1700. The song has a significant role at the spring celebrations of the Finnish schools. Annually the first three verses are sung at those celebrations.
