User talk:Democrat4

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I am interested in the 2008 Presidential Election and want to offer additional content to Democrats about Democrats. I own a website Democrat4president.org and would like to add a home page to Wikipedia for this website. I will also be add content to different presidential and democratic Wikipedia pages, some may include internal links to the Democrat4president.org home page and some may have external references and external links to my website if it adds to the conversation on the Wikipedia page.

I understand that this may be a conflict of interest, but I intend on adding to the Wikipedia community. Editors let me know if I over step my bounds.

[edit] Policies to watch out for

Hi!

Thanks for being up front about your hopes. It helps a lot when people are honest and so on, and I am sure others feel likewise.

However, Wikipedia is a very neutral encyclopedia, in principle, and there are many strong guidelines and policies against self promotion, promotion of groups, bodies and organizations one has a connection with, and the like, and these carry a lot of weight. You might want to read Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not to start with, and then more specifically WP:COI. They'll help you figure out what's okay and what's not.

If you are corrected on these by others, it would probably be a good idea to take carefully others' guidance. Accidentally becoming perceived as advocating, soapboxing, adding spam links or non neutral material, or the like, would inevitably cause a headache all round. So it's probably sensible to tread carefully, and listen to other editor's concerns if any do happen to arise.

PS - on a side note I notice this doesn't seem to be the only account you've ever had on Wikipedia. That's fine, and allowed, but be careful not to accidentally use this account to support or back up any other account. Thanks again, and once more, happy editing!
