[edit] Big 12 Conference coaches
Do you know if your changes to the section bring it up to date? If so, I'll remove the maintenance tag (or you can). Thanks! →Wordbuilder (talk) 13:39, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball
Hi there, Demoares. I noticed you've been adding the NCAA tournament years to the infobox of the Kansas Jayhawks men's basketball article. Please do not add the year to every single round appearance. In other words, the Jayhawks made the Final Four in 2008 — this year should not be added to the First Round, Second Round, Sweet 16, and Elite 8 fields. This is redundant, and can mislead our readers, who could think that KU only made the first round had they not known that KU also made the Final Four. I have already fixed this problem, so don't worry about fixing it. BlueAg09 (Talk) 06:42, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- I did not know other schools listed each round appearance, regardless of where they finished. Thanks for bringing that up. It seems like schools don't all do the same thing, though, with their NCAA banners. See this 2007 picture of the Frank Erwin Center, the University of Texas' basketball facility. If you zoom in to the top right area of the picture, you could see the NCAA banners. Though it's hard to read the years from the picture, you can tell how many each banner has: the Elite Eight banner has 3 years listed, while the Sweet Sixteen banner has 6. All of these years correspond to the round Texas finished in that year's tourney. Of course, the 2008 Elite Eight appearance is not listed, since it's a pic from last year. My school (Texas A&M) has banners for each year of the tourney, and each banner includes the round the team finished in. Anyway, this is how some readers may get confused by the infobox with ALL the round appearances listed. It's important to keep the infoboxes consistent. We could also avoid, as you mentioned, cluttering up the infobox too. BlueAg09 (Talk) 21:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] 2008 Kansas Nabox
I am holding off undoing your recent edit so as not to violate 3RR. You did not and have not addressed any of the concerns or arguments I have left in my edit rationales (in fact you provided no rationale at all for your last edit), only stating that players deserve "regcognition". Wikipedia is not an entity that give or takes away recognition. The naxboxes are exactly that, navigation boxes for links, not championship banners. It is not useful to have a navbox full of red links that likely will never meet the notability requirement to have an article in the first place (and if they eventually do, that player can be added to the navbox later). Also, the 2008 Kansas navbox is the only NCAA basketball champion navbox that included non-notable players. There is nothing inherently notable with the 2008 Kansas team that necessatate the inclusion of non-notable players in the navbox, as opposed to all other NCAA navboxes. Please note that college players are not inherantly notable per WP policy, as opposed to players that play professionally.
I hop to hear your response to my concerns. I do not intend to be disagreeable, just that I do not agree with your edits to this particular navbox. Thanks - Masonpatriot (talk) 16:47, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- One thing, I just read your comment on my talk page (after I wrote what is above). There is no need to take a confrontational tone. Please address my concerns and arguments within WP guidelines and outside who "deserves recognition". Thank you. - Masonpatriot (talk) 16:51, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
