[edit] "Social problems" section
There's a section "Social problems" that states:
- "Scotland is reported to have the second highest murder rate in Western Europe and people living in Scotland are more than three times as likely to be killed than those in England and Wales. [5]. Rising levels of violence in Scotland have been aggravated by alcohol and drug abuse, gang culture. Almost half of all murders in Scotland are committed by people under the influence of drugs or drink [6]."
I don't really think the above belongs in an article about demographics. Perhaps it belongs in a Crime in Scotland article or something. Just not here. (NB: I won't be taking any further part in discussing this matter - I only came across the article in a random way.) --A bit iffy 23:57, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Population drops
In the section on demographics it says that Aberdeen is seeing a population drop of around -0.5%. Is there a reference available for this figure? I would like to include it in the Aberdeen article. Bobbacon 12:37, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ethnic groups
What exactly is meant by Black Scottish or any other black background? I presume the figure comes from the census, but given that there is a figure for African and for Carribean I am puzzled by "any other black background". Black English? Black American? Scolaire 20:34, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] update the figures this year!
Please make sure that you update this page this year - it's now badly out of date. Population stands at 5.146 million and mid-year 06/07 estimate is for a further increase of 28,000 across the 07 year, making Scotland's population 5.174 million, or just 86,000 below its all-time high.86.153.34.37 (talk) 12:12, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
