Demos Shakarian
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Demos Shakarian (1913 - 1993) was a Christian businessman of Armenian origin from Los Angeles who founded the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International (FGBMFI).
Demos was named after his grandfather who left Armenia for America due to the 1855 prophecy of the Russian "Boy Prophet", Efim Gerasemovitch Klubniken, that an unspeakable tragedy was to soon come upon Armenia. A large group of pentecostal Christian Armenians moved to Los Angeles years before the Azusa Street Revival.
In the United States of America the family worked hard and eventually prospered. Demos's (Jr) milk herd grew to become the largest in the world at the time. He used his organizational abilities to facilitate evangelistic campaigns and started a prayer group that eventually grew to be the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International. The FGBMFI now has chapters in 132 countries. Its Voice Magazine has a circulation of 800,000 and its television programs are watched by over four million people weekly. [1]
Richard Shakarian, Demos's son is now international president of FGBMFI.
