Demonologist

Demonlogist — in fantasy: a demonlogist is a powerful warlock who has studied demonology, and so may conjure different demons and deal with them. Usually they are conjured with help of pentagrams or other magical runes and symbols, but in some settings other ways are possible. Real-life Demonologists could include exorcists and scholars who study works such as the Lesser Key of Solomon.

Examples:

  • In Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition, demonologist is a prestige class for spellcasters.
  • In Heroes of Might and Magic IV, game heroes who have the demonologist class may summon different Demons from Imps to Devils.
  • In Gothic 3, a player with levels of the Ancient Knowledge skill may conjure a guardian Demon with a sword which will fight alongside its conjurer.
  • In the World of Warcraft computer game, you may choose to play as a warlock, which is a type of spellcaster that can call forth demons to serve as guardians and mounts.
  • In Age of Conan Demonologists are a type of class that you can choose to play. They are specialised in fire and electric spells and can call demons to help them fight their way through Hyboria


Demonlogist — in mythology: An individual who knows Demonic Forces and ways to annihilate them. In some cases, the demons symbolize vices.

  • In the book of Shahnameh which tells the mythical and historical past of Iran, a mythical hero called Rostam tracks down and fights the demons.
