Demetrius Jones (born January 3, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois) is an American college football player. He was named the starting quarterback at the University of Notre Dame at the beginning of the 2007 season, but after opening the season with a blowout loss to Georgia Tech he was benched in favor of freshman Jimmy Clausen. Later that month it was reported he had transferred to Northern Illinois University where he would be eligible to play for the Huskies during the 2008 football season.

As of September 27th Jones had again transferred this time to the University of Cincinnati.[1] As before, he would not be eligible to play until the 2008 football season.

[edit] Before college

Jones got his nickname "Double D" from his grandmother. Since he occasionally got into trouble as a kid, his grandmother called him "Double D," which was short for "double disaster." Another nickname is Mo-Po Jones, a reference to his high school. He is also sometimes called "D-Train."[2]

On September 14, 2007 Demetrius Jones did not board a bus for the trip to play Michigan. Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis issued a statement saying, "At 2:30 today, while boarding the bus to Michigan, I was notified that Demetrius Jones had decided not to make the trip. I have not spoken to Demetrius and can only say that he missed the team bus. Any additional comment would be without all the facts."[3] The next day, it was reported that he had enrolled at Northern Illinois University. The departure is the second inside of one year for a Notre Dame quarterback since Zach Frazer transferred to Connecticut.[4]

As of September 2007 it was reported he would transfer to Northern Illinois University where he would be eligible to play for the Huskies during the 2008 football season.[5] Since Jones was enrolled by the 12th day of classes in 2007, the 2007 season will count as the year he must sit-out due to transferring.[6] However in another twist to Jones' college career he has since enrolled at the University of Cincinnati as of September 27th, 2007.
