[edit] Greek Spelling

I'm not sure if this has ever been brought to the attention of any members of this sorority, but on your official crest, the words "Delta Psi Epsilon" are written in Greek...and there are two spelling errors.

You have it spelled like this: ΔΕΛΤΑ ΨΣΙ ΕΠΣΙΛΟΝ

I don't speak Greek, but I am familiar enough with the Greek alphabet to see two errors here. The thing to understand is that the letter Psi is essentially the English letters P and S combined. So in the word "Psi," to follow the letter Psi with a Sigma is redundant; that would make the English equivalent essentially ps-s-i. The word Psi is spelled ΨΙ -- just Psi & Iota, that's it. For reference, here's a link to the letter's article on the Greek wikipedia: el:Ψι.

Similarly, the word Epsilon is spelled wrong. Here, you've put together the letters Pi & Sigma, which are each equivalent to the English P and English S separately. However, together, rather than Pi & Sigma, you just need the one letter, Psi, for P & S combined. Thus, the word "Epsilon" is spelled ΕΨΙΛΟΝ, as found on the letter's article on the Greek wikipedia: el:Έψιλον.

So, all together, the correct spelling of your letters in Greek is: ΔΕΛΤΑ ΨΙ ΕΨΙΛΟΝ

I can definitely understand how this error could have been made! I had never encountered any Greek letters spelled in Greek until I saw SigEp's crest, which is how I learned about how to properly use letters like Psi & Phi. I hope this is helpful! Maryamanda (talk) 17:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Colonies and No Chapters?

Also, just a quick question that I'm hoping someone familiar with the sorority can answer. I see that you have several colonies listed, but no "chapters." Can I ask how a sorority that was founded in 1999 has tons of colonies, but no chapters? Do you use the terms differently than most other GLOs? Maryamanda (talk) 17:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
