Talk:Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway

[edit] Delhi Gurgaon Expressway Toll Free within NCR
The much delayed, and tom-tommed, Expressway connecting Delhi and Gurgaon has now been formally open for over a fortnight. However, instead of alleviating the problems of road users, it has compounded them by completely mismanaging the rush hour handling. To most people, the Expressway has become the ExpressWoe. There is little doubt that the private company that built the highway spent a tidy sum on it, and has every right to get paid for it, as was envisaged. However, there is a move now that till the operators sort out their problems, the road should be made toll free. It will not only save time, but also save precious fuel from being burnt while people idle endlessly at the toll plaza.
Do you support the move to make it toll free?
We completely agree with you on checking online I found that the courts, government agency, media and public also feels the same. What is missing is a combined effort to ask for removal of such toll charges immediately else they will start appearing evrywhere. When DSC can ask for 4 flyovers Rs 11,680 per year (16*2*365) Imagine Delhi has built 76 flyover and few more are to be built if evryone starts taking toll you might as well stop using the road.
Court, The expressway has been issued a Court notice over toll on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notices to two government agencies on a petition seeking exemption from toll tax on the New Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway for daily commuters. Chief Justice M.K. Sharma and Justice Reva Khetarpal asked the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) to file their responses by Feb 20, the next date of hearing. Vivek Bharat Ram last month filed a public interest litigation (PIL) contending that paying the toll charge every day would be a financial burden for those who commute between Delhi and its suburb daily.
Seeking the court's intervention, the petitioner's counsel Suchit Kumar Sahijpal said the government should either exempt the daily commuters from paying the toll or construct alternative roads for them. The much-delayed Rs.10 billion, 27.7-km expressway was thrown open Jan 23, reducing the travel time of tens of thousands of commuters and international air passengers. Going a long way in improving road connectivity and decongesting traffic, the expressway have helped commuters cut short their travel time at least one hour on an average, according to many of them. Vehicle users have to pay a toll for using the expressway, which is collected at three points, near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Delhi-Gurgaon Border and the 42nd Milestone.
Govt, Haryana denies toll in Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway PM News Bureau. Harynana CM Om Prakash Chautala has denied toll collection to the National Highways Authority of India at Haldiram's resort in the 27.7 km Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. This comes 13 months after the construction began for this Rs 555 crore project. http://www.projectsmonitor.com/detailnews.asp?newsid=8346 It is learnt that the CM felt that setting up so many toll plazas would make it very expensive for commuters, as there is already a toll plaza near Bilaspur on NH-8. The construction of a new toll plaza near Haldiram's resort would mean three toll plazas at a distance of around 20 km from each other. In such a scenario, anybody travelling from Delhi to Dharuhera would have to pay toll tax three times for using the same road. (November 16-30, 2004)
Media, Times of India have on their website conducted a poll where 60% people feel the same. http://www1.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/debate/2775480.cms
