Delaware Route 286, also known as Bethel Church Road, is a short, 1.73 mile two-lane roadway that, along with Maryland Route 286 and Delaware Route 15, forms a link between Chesapeake City, Maryland and Summit, Delaware. Although primarily a rural route, DE Rt. 286 has seen an influx of residential developments due to the impacts of both the widening of U.S. Route 301/Delaware Route 896 and the completion of the Delaware Route 1 Turnpike. DE Rt. 286 is one of several routes in Delaware that does not fit into the State Highway System (based on that of the U.S. Highway System), as DE Rt. 286 shares the same route number as MD Rt. 286.
