[edit] History
Delaplane was originally known as Piedmont Station, so called because of the rail station there on the Manassas Gap railroad. In 1861, during the First Battle of Manassas, Stonewall Jackson marched his troops from Winchester to Piedmont Station, where he loaded them on rail cars headed for Manassas Junction so they could make it in time for the battle there. This marked the first time a railroad had been used to move troops into battle.
