[edit] Message from Blofeld
Devon Aoki. Would you? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:50, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi. Above what I meant about Devon was would you shag her!!! I think she is attractive. I'll speak to Giro but i think it would be more suitable to move it to Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Korean task force rather than Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea/Film or a Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/North East Asian task force which would include Japan, China and Hong Kong -the latter which I am working on. In the next few days I'll split the Japanese films by year -I haven't got around to it yet but something like British films of 1963, Italian films of 1950 etc. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
If there are enough films I'll give you a hand setting up the Korean films by year also like Template:HongKongfilmlist. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:09, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes I agree it might be too broad I'm just thinking of a way to cover all of east asian film and get some sort of standard regulation to them including Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Japan and South Korea. Of course the leader of North Korea is too busy playing snooker to invest in film ! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:07, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes North Korea is quite a country isn't it. IN the UK it is regarded with severe suspicion or in British english as "dodgy". I've been working entirely on Korean film today. Please see South Korean films of 2005. Please can yopu help fill in the titles by year and make each year such as South Korean films of 1961 like so. We need to get the titles into the tables fro imdb by year asap. I;ve set everything up so the link is there and the table is hidden in the edit pages ready. Also I have been tacking the [1] template at the foot of all articles to connect everything together. For instance if you click edit SK films of 1974 the tables are built ready for just copying the titles and filling ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:36, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes that sounds good. I think phase 1 is complete -that is setting up the years. Next stage will be to add the titles and info from a good source. Once the tables are filled in - I'll help you go through starting the films. These lists are an excellent foundation for structuring each cinema I think -particularly as each article will now connect to the years. Good luck!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:45, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

I'll also get around to splitting some 100 years of Japanese film by year in the cmoing days ready for building the film content. I think I've already set up the template. Now I'll be doing Spanish film this evening. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:46, 14 December 2007 (UTC) ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:36, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes when you begin adding can you add the korean transliteration underneath for encyclopedic purposes e.g like South Korean films of 1975. Don;t worry about the Korean character lettering though -I never understand how a square can represent every word!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 17:52, 14 December 2007 (UTC) Great!! I thought there were a lot more films for each year though. If not it may be best to merge into a decade list instead. We'll see ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 12:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Change it to Notes/release. With American film I've changed in the Notes/Studio. But it is important to keep notes as this may include awards , anything notable about film content etc as well as rleease ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Thats excellent progess congrats. Tomorrow I'm going to start splitting the Japanese films by year I think ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:16, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
OK I've done the split from 1950 onwards see Japanese films of 2002 etc. I know you said you will be concentrating on Korean film but if you could also take these lists under your wing and mother them this would be great. There,'s no rush of course as you are probably busy but it would be great if these could develop gradually too. Are you still interested in filling them ? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 23:12, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Cool. Yes I'll be honest with you that although I love many assets of Japanese culture (including pink -oh yeah baby), I can't stand!!!! anime or manga. Japanese cartoons really bug me. I don't know what it is -Pokemon -aaaarhh! Evidently an anime fan added those films but I;d rather see the decent films in their of course the Kurosawa films are there but films like Audition (film) -you know the decent films. I'd noticed about the redorects to the TV series - obviously film spinoffs from the series but crap if you ask me. If anything I think many of those films should be taken out and replaced with proper films -p.s brilliant job on those new articles keep em coming!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 11:25, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Girolamo emerges from deep-freeze
Hey, noticed the new Korean cinema group, and it's good to see the interest exists! Congrats on getting it off the ground. Blofeld knows me well enough, though, that he's right - I'd like to move it under WP Films, if that's alright with you. The original location will of course redirect, and we would operate the group as a joint task force between WP Films and WP Korea, so it would be designed around the needs of both projects concurrently. Let me know if you have any concerns or comments! Thanks, Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 21:07, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Question
Why are you adding "sources" to articles that never used those sources at all? IrishGuy talk 00:45, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Irishguy - which articles are you referring to? Videmus Omnia Talk 16:08, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, Irishguy. Short answer: because articles need sourcing. Often, in digging through my archives and sources available to me, I come across a source on a relatively obscure subject. Often I then see that our article on that subject is poorly-sourced, if not totally unsourced. Often totally unsourced subjects come up for deletion. If it's an article I work on, I put the source there to remind me where to go for information to add to the article. If it's an article on which I don't work, at least the source listing serves as a pointer to those who do work on the source. Think of it as a bibliography. No problem with that, I hope? Dekkappai (talk) 18:05, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hi, V.O. Apparently the article he's referring to is June Wilkinson. I added a very lenghty, in-depth article and interview on her. Irish guy, in his wisdom, decided the article doesn't need sourcing. I tried to help source the article, and it was rejected. So be it. Japan & Korea call. Dekkappai (talk) 18:11, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- William Lustig also apparently doesn't need sourcing. ;) Dekkappai (talk) 18:13, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've added them back as they definitely seemed appropriate. I still don't understand the reason for removal. Hopefully Irishguy is watching this page and will care to comment. Videmus Omnia Talk 18:19, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Articles need sources...on the content of the article. Simply adding a link to an article you have not edited and claiming it is a source isn't correct. It wasn't a source as it wasn't used to create the article. IrishGuy talk 20:56, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- So I'm calling perfectly good sources which I add to unsourced or poorly-sourced articles "Bibliography" now. That OK? Dekkappai (talk) 20:57, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- Dek dropped me a note. I guess I'm his policy expert of choice. :-) I said, basically, that per WP:MOS#Section management, it seems we can call it Further reading or Bibliography and it should be fine until someone has the time to turn it into a reference. Or in more detail: User talk:AnonEMouse#Sourcing question. --AnonEMouse (squeak) 21:00, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

- I'm not against "references". I assume you have read the sources you have added, yes? Why not just add some content from those sources and use that reference for the content? IrishGuy talk 21:27, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I come across the references while working on other articles-- my interest is generally in Japan and Korea-related subjects. I happen to have access to good off-line, print sourcing, especially with regards to cult film, which may not be available to editors of these non-Korea/Japan articles. Generous guy that I am, I sometimes add them to these articles both as evidence of coverage, and as a pointer to a potential editor. I do most of my editing off-line, and add these sources quickly when I am online. Should any editor be interested, all s/he has to do is drop me a note, and I'd be more than happy to scan any of these articles to help out. Judging from the citations, the June Wilkinson article is complete OR and unsourced. I added an 8-page interview/article, which you then removed. So you're saying, unless I edit the article, I should keep my references to myself? Sorry, but I'd like a second opinion... Dekkappai (talk) 21:41, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] References for pre-Internet book reviews
Dekkappai-san, I'd like to write/expand a couple of articles on 1980s science fiction - specifically Brian Daley's Coramonde duology and John DeChancie's Skyway series. Do you have any ideas as to where I could find any reviews and/or sales figures? Videmus Omnia Talk 12:30, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Domo for the info! I've copied it to my own userspace (User:Videmus Omnia/Notes). Videmus Omnia Talk 23:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'll also eventually be working on an article for my all-time favorite book, Once An Eagle, by Anton Myrer, but it will probably be a couple of months. Videmus Omnia Talk 23:19, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The color is good
However, the filmography section is very long due to his prolific works and partially the vertical-inclined table. I think the article just lists notable or historically important movies and the rest of them are transferred to a new article like List of films directed y Im Kwon-taek like List of compositions by George Frideric Handel. (example is far off the film, but that is what I can recall now) --`Appletrees (talk) 01:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I added the link to List_of_Korean_film_directors and articles of Korean film directors. The site might be operated by South Korean government. I didn't know the English version is working well because I'm using Mac. --Appletrees (talk) 18:45, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Just out of curiosity
I thought you're a Japanese American. Am I wrong? --Appletrees (talk) 20:51, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- No, I'm white American, raised very close with a Japanese family, and so I grew up with some acquaintance with the language & culture. I later lived and worked in Korea for a few years and got married there. You're in Korea, I assume? Dekkappai (talk) 20:55, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. You seem to be very fluent in Japanese language, therefore, I believed so. If my question was somewhat unpleasant, I apology to you. Your guess is right. --Appletrees (talk) 21:06, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- No problem! Thanks for the compliment, but I wish my Japanese (and Korean) were half as good as your English! I've got a question also, maybe you could help me with, Appletrees. You probably see that I've worked a lot on Japanese erotic cinema, and now I've added a couple from the Korean erotic cinema genre-- 뽕 and 애마부인. I'm not sure whether to put them under the "Pornography" project though, since they are so mild by today's standards. My wife tells me that in Korea, at that time, they were definitely considered pornographic. Also, the Korean references I read about these films call them Pornography. So, do you think it's appropriate to include them under the Porn Project? Dekkappai (talk) 21:11, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. You seem to be very fluent in Japanese language, therefore, I believed so. If my question was somewhat unpleasant, I apology to you. Your guess is right. --Appletrees (talk) 21:06, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm... I think the former is not pornography but the latter seems relevant to the project. The film, Ppong is based on the same titled novel, which is highly regarded literature. Not only that the movie received good reviews in artistic aspect. --Appletrees (talk) 21:22, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- Right-- I've seen Ppong, and it's a quality movie, and won many awards. I think there's no problem putting it under category "Erotic film" though, since there's definitely a lot of eroticism to it, in fact it's the main element of the movie... I haven't seen Aema Buin yet, but it seems to be generally considered softcore pornography. Even if it's not very high-quality, it seems to be a pretty important film since it started the erotic genre of the '80s, which helped the industry stay alive during rough times, and eventually led to today's boom in very high-quality films... I'll put it under the Project Pornography then. Thanks! Dekkappai (talk) 21:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] South Korea PD
- I recall why I abandoned making the new template. :( The image copyright of South Korea is much more strict and unclear than the neighboring countries. So I previously gave you a wrong info according to Korean wiki source. [2]. The copyright status solely is determined by life time and death date of the creators. The arirang poster is under the South Korean PD, because the only copyright holder of the poster was the director, Na Un-gyu who was dead about 70 years ago. I think I have to ask Korean editors in Korean wikipedia, there has law school students, and disputes on using fair image. I let you know how this thing would go after I ask them about this matter. --Appletrees (talk) 19:43, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Hmm... And I know that many prominent people in Korea in the first half of the 20th century have a "?" for year of death, because of the political situation of the times... This probably makes determining PD even more difficult. Thanks for the research, and I hope we can find a more definitive Korean PD policy soon. Dekkappai (talk) 19:52, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

- Do you know how to make a link to wikisource? I made a rough template for South Korea pd, but something weird makes it to false link. I intend it to be link Korean Wikisource, and if you rollover the link article36, 37, it shows http://ko.wikisource.org.....but it leads English wikisource. Please see this. - Ah, I actually wanted to avoid the language looking scattered like s#%^%4$$ something like that, but before something good solution comes, the link itself will clear things out for people who can read Korean :P. I think we can use the template right away, even though there has some complexities on the copyright, I already checked some possible legal problems about 2 months ago. In fact, I made a question on making the template, but nobody seemed much care about the matter (at that time, editors faced a mid term though).--Appletrees (talk) 20:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- OK, good. And we can put this PD notice on the poster, since posters to Na Un-gyu's films would clearly fall under this PD policy, and then use that image for the Korean film template. Dekkappai (talk) 20:57, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- By the way-- let me know when you get that done, then we can put some images on the article for Na Un-gyu. I see some nice portraits HERE. Dekkappai (talk) 21:02, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I think for other language editors, uploading PD poster images to commons would be much helpful :) If any problem raises upon the template, let's fix it (quite a simple suggestion). [edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Fuko.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Fuko.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Garion96 (talk) 01:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
