Dekh Bhai Dekh is a Hindi sitcom revolving around the Diwan family, who live as an extended family in an ancestral bungalow in the suburbs of Bombay. The family consists of 11 members, aged from 6 years to 65 years, including a father, mother, two sons and their families. The serial takes the viewer through the various ups and downs faced by the family and through crazy and unexpected things which happen to them with unfailing regularity. Their never-say-die attitude helps them overcome sibling rivalry, boyfriend troubles, business problems, in-law problems, etc. A distinctive feature of this show was its fast speaking characters.

- The Grandparents — The role of Dadiji (grandmother) is played by Sushma Seth. She is a busy socialite who is involved with various charity organizations. She is the stern one in the house and is undoubtedly the head of the family. Dadaji (grandfather), her hen-pecked husband, is a loving, endearing person and is mostly up to mischief along with the kids.
- The Sons — The two sons are Balraj (Navin Nischol) and Sameer (Shekhar Suman). Balraj is the serious and sensible son who is always seen watching the events that take place in the house with an amused smile. Sameer on the other hand is funny and witty, and always pulling everyone’s leg.
- The Wives — Suhasini (Farida Jalal) is the wife of Balraj and Sonu (Bhavna Balsavar) is the wife of Sameer. Suhasini owns a beauty parlour and is very charming and sweet. Sonu is affectionately called Chaachi by the younger members of the family. The dumb, innocent and adorable Chaachi is a writer who takes her job very seriously, much to the amusement of her family members.
- The Kids — Sanju and Kirthi are the teenaged children of Balraj and Suhasini, while Vishal and Aabha are Sameer and Sonu’s children. Sanju spends most of his time on the phone with his girlfriend Shilpa, who is always suspicious of him. Everything he does becomes a huge disaster and he is always seeking advice from others to woo Shilpa back. The kids and their friends provide many comic situations to which the viewers can actually relate.

There are various other characters who come on and off and add to the fun, including Kareema (Deven Bhojani) the servant, the wacko assistant of Suhasini, the cute mother of Sonu with her popular “Tere mooh mein keede… ”, the bespectacled Deepak, a friend of Kirthi, the weirdo friend of Sanju, and Amar Upadhyay of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi fame who acted as Saahil Chaachu in this comedy. Actor Lilliput plays a bunch of guest appearances in this serial, doubling up for quite a few characters including a mad author, a share broker and much more.
