Dear Deiz, My articles are very neutral. Most articles which are written exist because there is a relation of interest. The interest here is to provide information about institutions which provide support against the climate change issue. It is all non-commercial. The COI starts there where information is given that way that you put yourself into advantage. This is in non of my articles the case, but i try to write upon the structure which is provided worldwide of institutions and tools which provide information and solutions. I try to interlink these. If you want to delete these 2 articles then you will not delete only hours of work but usefull informations and support for people who have the initiative and will to tackle climate change (if it is man-made or not is another question). I appreciate very much the work of wikipedia and i really think that my articles equal the wiki quality as i gave all my respect to this enciclopedia. --Energybase 11:51, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Kyuss

Why did you delete my additions to the Kyuss (Greyhawk) article? Kennonv 05:38, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

As for it being "unsourced trivia", I took the information from the original Kyuss article: Kyuss#As_Sons_of_Kyuss Perhaps you would like to remove it there as well.
I agree that what I added was to lengthy. However, the section could have been rewritten to say "The influential stoner metal band Kyuss was originally named Sons of Kyuss". If you think it was too long you should have edited it.
As for "Trivia and minor pop-culture references", WP is chock full of them. There are entire articles in WP that are about the influence of something on popular culture: Dune_in_popular_culture Also, there are plenty of articles with sections titled "Influence on Popular Culture": The_Charge_of_the_Light_Brigade_(poem)#Influence_on_popular_culture. Your arguement is inconsistant with what I've seen on the site.
If you were a were huge fan of Greyhawk, and were defending the purity of the article, perhaps I could understand. Whatever your reasoning, I will not add the section back. I don't really care.
What concerns me is that you removed it without stating a reason. As a WP administrator, I feel it would be more helpful if you stated the reasons for your deletions when you made them and do so in a more educational and constructive manner. Kennonv 00:19, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
I found your additional comments useful. When I have an article changed or deleted, I like to know why, and how I can create better articles. I agree with you as the content stands. I will probably adopt your philosophy (if you will), of less focus on popular culture in general. Pop culture is all to well documented on the internet as it is (except stoner rock).
As for citable references about stoner rock bands, its hard but I do what I can.
Again, thank you for your help. Kennonv 02:05, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Nbwestlinks.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nbwestlinks.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Wikipedia Documentary

Deiz-

What's up? My name is Nic Hill and I'm directing a documentary film about Wikipedia. I am following Jimmy Wales around the world and documenting the movement. I'm traveling to India with Jimmy in late February but I'll be in Seoul from feb 17th to feb 19th. I see you are an administrator and you live in Korea? That’s cool. I was wondering if you would be interested in meeting up when we come to town? or if you know any Korean Wikipedians who might be interested... Any language is ok. So far we have filmed at Wikimania 2006, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.

Please take a look at our movie trailer... http://www.underdogpictures.com/wikidoc/wikienter.htm

Thank you for your time. Please contact me if you are interested in being a part of this documentary film.

[edit] Rock music Wikiproject invitation

Hello WikiProject Metal member.
WikiProject Metal music is important in expanding encyclopedic coverage of the metal. It brings attention to the lesser-known bands, and significantly improves the quality of the famous ones. Five Featured articles and two formers is proof of that.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently resurrected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and embrace the links between metal and rock music in general.
Rock on.

[edit] Image:Ryandunnpromo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Ryandunnpromo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 05:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Hi, thanks for deleting the Dolla Billz and associated articles. It's kinda out of my hands now. You would absolutely have to find reliable, independent external sources (think high-circulation newspapers, Rolling Stone etc) which verfiy the cult status / cultural impact of the song. I'm afraid that if you trimmed out what would currently be termed as "unencyclopedic" or "anti-policy", there wouldnt be a lot left. Rest assured I know plenty about CKY/GK and Wikipedia, and I'm pretty sure the only result here is going to be a redirect to the main Gnarkill article. I know you've worked on this and believe me I take no pleasure in seeing editors work being deleted, but it's all about the policies which govern Wikipedia. I'm always ready to help / answer qustions etc. It should still be a few days before anything happens, so if you do turn up any external sources I'll be happy to look at them and help format them into the article if they push the right buttons. Well, it appears he has returned as Dog Man311 (talk · contribs) (the user page even admits to it). I thought I would gauge your opinion on the matter before blocking the "new" user. Current contributions do not show an inclination to breaking the rules as they did before, however, there's good faith on the one hand and a block being a block on the other hand and anything else is evasion. Okay, I'll definitely do that. I went ahead and tagged a bunch of his IP addresses as well. And yeah, I think Ag was going to write up the ban... hopefully he can do it soon, because this is getting old really quickly. And seriously -- Josh must have no life. He says he's a rapper, but if he seriously wants to rap, he should get off Wikipedia and focus on rapping. Rockstar915 03:39, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More about Josh

I just wanted to let you know that I tracked down most of the vandalism by Josh Gotti and reverted/removed it. I seriously changed more dozens of counts of vandalism. I also tagged a bunch more IP addresses as socks. He's still vandalizing, too. See here, just today. Sigh... Rockstar915 05:09, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Okay, so it looks like he's back, in the form of Evanrosswifey. Originally he made an edit with an IP address marked as one of Josh Gotti's here and then made the same edit as Evanrosswifey here. I tagged him as a sock, but can you {{indef}} him? Thanks, Rockstar915 06:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
Got another one: Lucky6446. Rockstar915 20:38, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Just to let you know -- I started a page on my own userpage keeping an up-to-date list of Josh socks, because I didn't want to keep annoying Agathoclea by adding more socks to the list on his talk page. Speaking of which, Aga and I spoke and I'm going to go ahead and write up a community ban proposal this weekend and then let him (and you if you want) read it before submitting it to WP:CN. Josh been back at least twice more and I'm getting tired of spending my entire Wikipedia time reverting his vandalism. Let's squash him! Rockstar (T/C) 05:16, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Good point, I guess on re-reading that summary it does look a bit rude. I apologise, it wasn't intended that way! Regards, -- Chuq (talk) 06:24, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] External links

WP:EL is a guideline, not policy.

That said, will you be happy if I replace the external links with internal ones on the template? Or will you then start tagging each band's separate article with a non-notability tag? The template will actually be taylored such that it can create navigation between all forms of Iranian music. Each page will have its own customized links to the genre's major bands.

I am restoring the external links to the online media and Radio links, because those cannot be replaced or built into WP, and they are directly relevant and pertinent to the article as per satisfying these requirements.

And why did you remove the youtube link? Is there a policy against linking to Youtube that I have overlooked?--Zereshk 17:50, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

The You Tube link for Meera is valid to put in the article because their own record label has put it on You Tube: [5] and WP:EL states here: "There is no blanket ban on linking to these sites as long as the links abide by these guidelines..." in which our case there is no copyright infringement.--Zereshk 23:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] For the band links

So is it OK if we replace the external links with red links, until I fill the articles up one by one (make them blue)?

[edit] For the "online media" and "festival" external links of the template

Your argument cuts both ways: you cant pick the places of WP:EL that you like and use that against external linking either. WP:EL specifically says here:

"Links to be considered:
  1. For albums, movies, books, and other creative works, links to professional reviews.
  2. A web directory category, when deemed appropriate by those contributing to the article, with preference to open directories."

And that is precisely what links like Tehran Avenue, Zirzamine, and Cafe Tehran, etc... are: professional review sites to Iranian music bands, and open link directories to bands. In fact, these links are THE ONLY directories and reviewers of Iranian rock music. Surely you dont wish to handicap the article by prohibiting these links.--Zereshk 23:03, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Username change?

Would a username change affect my chances at adminship? I've recently received a large amount of harassment due to pages I've nominated for deletion (and have been subsequently deleted) and I wish to disassociate my wikipedia username with usernames I have used on other internet sites to protect my identity. Does a username change look like I have something to hide? Ocatecir Talk 08:12, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Good to know. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. Its sad to think I might have to fear my privacy due to my participation on WP. Thanks for the info. Ocatecir Talk 09:00, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
Deiz, is it possible to get a 6 month block on User:72.230.98.90? He just waited through his temp ban and started vandalizing all the pages I am involved with. I reported him to AIV but they will probably just give another 24 hour. This guy is mad because I nominated some pages for deletion and they were deleted. He's followed me all over the internet for 3 days now. Ocatecir Talk 16:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter List

I saw you added a deletion tag to List of Pi Kappa Alpha Chapters. I understand you are an administrator, and as such, know much more about Wikipedia than I do. I am asking your advice to how I can/could improve the article so as to not see it deleted. I would appreciate any reply on my talk page, if possible. Thank you. Jmlk17 05:40, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:AlexNewArtBot

Hi Deiz/archive8, as a WikiProject Scotland participant, please check out this this thread and consider adding the bot results page to your watchlist so we can manually update the New Articles page. There are some false results for the first batch, but I'm sure we can collectively tune the rules to improve the output.

If we get enough people watching the results page, we'll be cooking with gas as they say :)   This looks like a great helper in finding new Scotland related material. Cheers. --Cactus.man 22:33, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Deizsaltire.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Deizsaltire.jpg.

Thank you. Valentinian T / C 18:20, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Dragan

Hi ZLZ, I notice that you have created a sub-page about your band at User:Zouavman Le Zouave/Dragan. Wikipedia is not a web hosting service, and the page appears to fall afoul of this policy. From WP:NOT - "Wikipedians have their own user pages, but they may be used only to present information relevant to working on the encyclopedia. If you are looking to make a personal webpage or blog, please make use of one of the many free providers on the Internet." Standard practice is to have a link to an external site from your webpage rather than use Wikipedia to promote or showcase your own company, band, invention etc. If you could check out WP:NOT#Wikipedia is not a blog, webspace provider, or social networking site I think you'll agree. The "soft landing" to this would be to redirect the page to your userpage, and include a quick mention and link (I play in a band called Dragan which you can check out at somespace.com/dragan" would be fine). Presenting userpages as Wikipedia articles, complete with bluelinks to userpages, redlinks to your friends, article infoboxes, WP:MOS formatting etc. is especially frowned upon. Also, your sub page at User:Zouavman Le Zouave/Stuff appears to contain nothing that could not appropriately be condensed or discarded and included on your userpage. It's fine to have a "workspace" type sub-page, but much of the information here really strays into blog/myspace territory.

Please don't take this as anything other than a routine policy matter, or see it as negatively related to our current conversation at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of avant-garde metal musical groups. You're clearly a dedicated Wikipedian with great taste in music :) Deiz talk 12:15, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Hey mate, thanks for warning me. Yes I did create that subpage, but is it really a problem? I mean, should we really propose it for deletion? I've been keeping this page for quite a while, it hasn't been a problem... I don't know. Zouavman Le Zouave (Talk to me!) 22:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi again, thanks for getting back to me.. Alas, they're against policy and really have to go... as noted above, I recommend you redirect both pages to your userpage and think carefully about what is appropriate on your userpage and how to present it... I'm not dying to take this to MfD but it could end up there. Deiz talk 02:00, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Hi, just to close out this issue I've gone ahead and listed the pages (Dragan and Stuff) at WP:MFD. By the way, I found Ido from your page and found it really interesting.. if only Korean didn't take up my linguistic energies... Deiz talk 14:57, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I put them as speedy deletion to speed up the process ^^. Yeah Ido is a pretty wonderful language. Too bad so few people actually speak it fluently. I've created some pages on the Ido Wikipedia, but my lack of vocabulary makes it hard :p Zouavman Le Zouave (Talk to me!) 13:51, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RE:Signature

The reason my font is enlargened is because the font (chiller) is naturally small and unreadable at the standard size. Surely this is enough reason for exception? Anonymous Dissident Utter 06:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok then, I dont really care one way or another - I'll change my font (my whole signature actually) at the next possible opportunity. Thanks, Anonymous Dissident Utter 13:34, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Avant garde metal

Please point out why the article fails WP:NOT. Like I said in the article, I don't see how it fails. Therefore I feel your interpretation of WP:NOT is not correct. The kind of "List of genre x" lists I was talking about are conform WP:LISTS and Wikipedia:Lists (stand-alone lists).

And by the way, I was making a point but did not "prove it experimentally". I didn't alter anything on wikipedia through "unilateral action", and didn't do anything disruptive. I did what wikipedian are expected to do: discuss, and I made "Direct statements" because they "are the best way to garner respect, agreement and consensus". Next time, please be more careful, and know the essence of an article before falsely accusing people. Emmaneul 11:33, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 158.125.1.113

You have blocked this IP group, both currently, and in the past.
You don't seem to be aware that this group belongs to Loughborough University. This means that the group is open to literally thousands of students every day. It is punishing a very large number of users to force a week-long block because of one user's stupidity. I would also point out that there has not any 'blockable' activity for some months. I would ask you to reconsider, maybe to a 48-hour block?? (RM21 12:26, 21 May 2007 (UTC))

  • On further examination, it seems that you reverted some perfectly reasonable contributions from the articles Reichstag building, and Königsberg Castle with no explanation; this was not vandalism. If you cannot explain this, then I will have to complain to a higher administrator. I hope you will reverse the block. (RM21 12:37, 21 May 2007 (UTC))
  • Hi RM21. There has been blockable editing in the past few days, and as clearly noted on the template on the relevant talkpage, school IPs may be blocked for up to 6 months. If I inadvertently reverted some useful edits then by all means undo my reversions. Editors are most welcome to register a username if they wish to join the WP community and avoid being temporarily blocked for the actions of others. And, for your future reference when enquiring as to administrative actions and requesting some kind of redress, you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Deiz talk 12:49, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for that, and point noted. However, I still feel a week is a long time, esp. as I made the edits myself (if I'd known what the outcome was going to be, I would've laid off posting them until later). Could you reconsider?? (RM21 13:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC))
In light of your acceptance of the situation and more agreeable tone I'll lift the block. However, be aware that anonymous vandalism is a serious issue, and no-one has a "divine right" to edit Wikipedia regardless of where they edit from. I would apply a similar block if the problem continued. Deiz talk 13:20, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SCV

Thanks. You were correct to summarily delete the info. Such lists are often unverifiable and in some situations entries may be considered contentious or even derogatory. In this case I quickly search on each of the names with "SCV" and most didn't have a quick hit from a reliable source. It's better to have a short, sourced list than a long and unsourced one. ·:·Will Beback ·:· 08:53, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HI Deiz

Yes, as clearly stated on my userpage. Deiz talk 15:52, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks you.
I see, you discribe in your page this, but he not note anywhere, and suddenly I was blocked by him. I pointed out this, but he doesn't answer at all. I want arbitrate by person neutral position, please tell me how I do?Tokyo Watcher

You don't need arbitration - try talking to editors interested in Japanese topics on the talk page at WP:JAPAN for advice about what you can and can't do in Japanese. Deiz talk 16:15, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

OK! Thanks you. I will try. Good by. Tokyo Watcher

[edit] Long Way Round

They definately paid a bribe. Ewan: "So we're basically having to pay off the guy"

I think you're talking about Long Way Round. Unless you can source (prove) that they paid an illegal bribe to a border guard, let's keep it as "fee". Deiz talk 10:17, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Was talking about Long Way Round, sorry. I'll upload a video of it to youtube later.

Sounds like that could be a breach of copyright? I own the DVD, and my original point still stands. Deiz talk 13:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Many thanks

Thank you for all your help, Deiz. I appreciate the guidance and the kind nomination. Let me know if you ever need anything. Ocatecir Talk 17:49, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

p.s. One casualty of my RFA was the wikiproject cky userbox, so I made an image that doesn't resemble any cky logo, hopefully this one will be ok.

[edit] Plexiglass (sic)

I saw your "opinion" about the term "plexiglass", please provide a source to back up your statemnnets that "but plexiglass is absolutely acceptable as a word, regardless of being derived from a genericized trademark." I would be quite interested to see that, specifically because "Plexiglas" is not genericized, the trademark is still registered, it has not been "lost". About "plexiglas" being a "word", that should be easy to prove also, merely cite a dictionary that includes it, I'll help you, don't try Meriam-Webster [6] it's not there.Tstrobaugh 15:47, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Since I asked you for proof, I will provide my rebuttal now rather than wait, here is proof "Plexiglas" is still a registered trademark and has not been "genericized" or lost See [7] and [8].Tstrobaugh 15:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if you made a typo or you can't follow the conversation. You wrote "American Heritage Dictionary lists Plexiglas". The argument is not about whether "Plexiglas" is a word, but whether "plexiglass" is a word. How does your statement "American Heritage Dictionary lists Plexiglas" relate to whether "plexiglass" is a word? Please explain. Also, please explain how you think other copyright violations such as "cites the variant plexiglass as having been used in The LA Times" lend credence to the fact that "plexiglass" is a word, I don't understand that logic. As for Trademarks do not have to be "lost" to become genericized," you are incorrect, from your own source:"Whether or not a mark is popularly identified as genericized, the owner of the mark may still be able to enforce the proprietary rights which attach to the use or registration of the mark, so long as the mark continues to exclusively identify the owner as the commercial origin of the applicable products or services. I asked you to cite your sources, please quote from this article that says "Trademarks do not have to be "lost" to become genericized,". Also from your source:"Trademark owners will naturally seek to maximize the popularity of their marks, and may believe that a certain level of genericity demonstrates how well-known and successful a mark has become.". You are correct that "where a generication causes a trademark to lose its protection," but that has not happened to "Plexiglas".Tstrobaugh 14:11, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
"Is plexiglass used as a generic term to describe acrylic glass and similar materials? Yes." You are again incorrect as you have been all along. Your statement is correct only in the sense that "plexiglass" is used incorrectly as a generic term to describe acrylic glass. I see you can offer no proof of any of your assertions, in this you are correct, you are done.Tstrobaugh 15:23, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
