[edit] Gods by culture category
I've recently cleaned up the Deities by culture category to first feed into a number of regional categories before getting to most cultures. This was already being done in some cases, so I just carried the idea over to the other deities categories that were currently feeding directly into Deities by culture. The benefit is that months or years down the road, we won't have a helplessly bloated main category. Cameroon alone has over 200 ethnic groups, each with their own traditional gods and goddesses; seeing a parent category with thousands of sub-categories didn't seem like a good idea to me. :)
But now I see that this exact same situation (minus most of the regional categories) exists for Gods by culture. So my question is: Why do we even need "Gods by culutre"? Isn't it enough to have, say, Akkadian deities and then within that to have Akkadian gods and Akkadian goddesses? Even should we create regional subcategories under Gods by culture (and Goddesses by culture), having Akkadian gods feed both into Akkadian deities and into Ancient Near Eastern gods seems like a redundant parallel categorization tree, to me.
