Straus, Ph.D., author of Strategic Self-Hypnosis, Creative Self-Hypnosis, Using Sociology: An Introduction From the Applied and Clinical Perspectives (3rd Edition), and co-author with the late Nathan Hurvitz of Marriage and Family Therapy: The Sociocognitive Approach. Straus received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Davis in 1977. He was on faculty at Alfred University (1983-1986) and since then has worked as a marketing research consultant for several major consultancies and, since moving to Portland, Oregon in late 2006, as an independent practitioner.
