[edit] Diatonic scale

I changed the heading of the template to "a diatonic scale" because not all scales have these functions. Hyacinth 02:07, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Diatonic and chromatic

The heading in this template is Degrees of a diatonic scale, but the term "diatonic" is used here without a clear meaning. I would make a point similar to Hyacinth's, above: on one interpretation of the term diatonic, scales other than diatonic ones have some of these functions (the harmonic minor, for example). Along with chromatic, the term causes serious uncertainties at several Wikipedia articles, and in the broader literature. Some of us thought that both terms needed special coverage, so we started up a new article: Diatonic and chromatic. Why not have a look, and join the discussion? Be ready to have comfortable assumptions challenged! – Noetica♬♩Talk 05:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
