Template talk:DefunctAmericanSFMagazines

[edit] Size
Just a comment: I think this template is likely to get much too big to be useful. Even if all semiprozines are eliminated, there must surely be well over a hundred titles. Including everything that has been indexed as an sf magazine would make this very long indeed. At the moment the size is manageable because the list is incomplete.
Not sure what the best answer is -- I don't know if a template this broad is appropriate, but I can't think of a more concise template that would be better. Mike Christie (talk) 14:21, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- When I created the template I couldn't think anything more concise. If you have any ideas let me know. Pmcalduff (talk) 01:57, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

- How about splitting it into decades, and not requiring the "Defunct" part? The interesting thing for a reader is whether a magazine was active at a given time. So we could have nine templates for "American SF magazines of the 1920s", and so on up to the current decade. If we do want to indicate which ones are defunct, perhaps an asterisk or italics could be used for ones that are still going. Mike Christie (talk) 13:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

- That would work with magazines that were only around for a decade or two but with a magazine like Analog there would end up being eight templates on the one page. If we tried to put that many templates in the article the person who worked on it would just remove them. Pmcalduff (talk) 05:55, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
