Template talk:Defban

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] VERY IMPORTANT

Do NOT use this template except in EXTREME cases where someone is DELIBERATELY posting unambiguously defamatory material. If someone have made a genuine mistake and posted unintentionally defamatory stuff, use the defwarn template or leave a message warning them about the risks they put themselves in. This template is only for EXTREME CASES and follows a ban.

The above message is also in the hidden section of the template, so someone using it can see it. To give an example of how this template should be used: a user was/is deliberately posting untrue allegations in edit summaries that two named individuals engage in child sex abuse, and included posting an address and telephone number. The allegation is complete fiction. The user has repeatedly been blocked and this template posted on each sockpuppet account he uses.

Don't use this template for genuine errors where someone unintentionally defamed someone. This template is intended simply as a way of screaming at someone don't ever post stuff like that on Wikipedia. It is not intended for honest and genuine mistakes. A much more moderate and reserved one exists for that.

BTW Jimbo has been informed about the creation of this template, as has members of the arbcom. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 23:54, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Seems to me that a brief mention of the current thing might add additional weight to it (Brian Chase, right?) *shrugs* Sherurcij (talk) (bounties) 23:25, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
