Deftones_-_Engine_No._9_(sample).ogg (Ogg Vorbis sound file, length 20s, 67kbps)

[edit] Summary

20.5 second sample of Deftones' song "Engine No. 9" from the album Adrenaline (1995). Sample is used to illustrate the band's early sound on their debut record as well as showing singer Chino Moreno's vocal range.

Audio was cropped to 10% of original length (3:25 to 0:20) and had a short fade out added at the end of the sample. Encoded to OGG format at quality level = 0.

[edit] Fair use in Deftones and Adrenaline (album)

This is a sound sample from a commercial recording. Its inclusion here is claimed as fair use because:

  • It illustrates an educational article that specifically discusses the song from which this sample was taken
  • It is a sample of 20.5 seconds from a much longer recording, and could not be used as a substitute for the original commercial recording; and
  • It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted sample of comparable educational value.
  • It is believed that this sample will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original recording.

I believe that this use of the excerpt is in good faith, and that its inclusion enhances rather than reduces the commercial value of the recording from which it was drawn. - Phorque (talk) 16:03, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
