Deficit hawk

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deficit hawk is an American political slang term for those who place great emphasis on keeping the federal budget under control, and deficits low. Senator John McCain of Arizona and Senator George Voinovich of Ohio are now perhaps the best-known deficit hawks currently in the United States Senate, as were Senators Warren Rudman of New Hampshire, Phil Gramm of Texas and Fritz Hollings of South Carolina during their years in the Senate.
