[edit] Decyl glucoside
Hi, I saw you created decyl glucoside. Nice work, there are more chemicals that need a page on wikipedia, especially when they are in generally available things like shampoo. Thanks!
As you may be aware, I am quite active in the wikipedia project chemistry and wikipedia project chemicals. I have changed a few things according to the guidelines in the WP:MOS and in the style guides in the wikiproject. Some general things, please don't add sections with no information in there (they are annoying to people who read the article to gain information, try to discuss such things on the talk-page, or find someone to help you with it (don't ask heaps of people, but try to be selective, asking many people might annoy some of them, and some are very busy with other things as well)). Another hint: for many things there are templates available, for now, have e.g. a look at {{chembox}} and {{stub}} (for the latter there are many, e.g. {{organic-compound-stub}}). Some of these have some nice possibilities, it makes the page easy to find (use the 'what links here' in the toolbox, left column on a page and see what happens), and some add pages to categories, which makes pages even more easy to find. That is another thing, categories. All pages should be in at least one category, there are a whole range of them, with a large hierarchy (categories can be in categories). For decyl glucoside you could consider category:organic compounds. If you then go to category:chemical substances, you see that you can browse downwards to that category, and find the compound you created. Try to use the lowest category in the rank, sometimes you have to add more, sometimes you have to create a new category (if there are more of the type of compounds in the wikipedia, it does not make sense if there is only one compound). And if you need help with the page, another option is to try and see if the page exists in other languages (see on other pages how they link to the other languages), you might not understand what the page says, but sometimes you can get data from that page, or a reference which can help you further (of course you first have to find the page, but probably the other language wikipedia uses categories as well .. and a bit of fantasy can help you further).
Hope to see you around, and I will try to give you some help, when I am not consumed by other tasks at hand (php-programming).
You can answer on this page, that keeps the conversation together, I will be watching this page (well, is an auto-setting, pages I edit are automatically in my watch-list). Of course, when you have a question on a new subject, you can ask on my talkpage (and then I will answer there). Happy editing! --Dirk Beetstra T C 23:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
