[edit] Please take care with delete tags
Greetings. I'm assuming good faith on your part, but just wanted to caution you to take care when placing tags for speedy deletion. Several hours ago you placed the template db-nonsense on the article Tom Anderson (politician), apparently without having thoroughly checked the article history. Had you checked it, you might have noted that you placed the tag just minutes after the article -- a lengthy, well-source article on a notable Alaska politician made further notable by charges of political corruption -- had been vandalized by WikeEditor having blanked it for the second time in two minutes.
As a result of your erroneous "db-nonsense" tag, an admin, who apparently also was not thorough in checking the article history, removed the article; fortunately, another admin caught her error, reversed the page-blanker's vandalism and temporarily blocked the page to prevent repeat vandalism. (See User talk:Natalie Erin#Tom Anderson and User talk:DGG#Tom Anderson.)
Inasmuch as I've put in hours of work in trying to make this a balanced, well-sourced article, it was rather unnerving to find that it escaped disappearing to oblivion by a whisker. Again, please use more caution before placing speedy delete tags. Thanks. --Yksin 19:38, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your apology. That's the way we all learn: from our mistakes. I just think of all of those I've made! Best wishes. --Yksin 21:51, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Congrats on your block being lifted. Okay, now just be careful! --Yksin 21:39, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Since there's so many people involved, I hope they check here. Thank you everybody for helping me with this incident. I have learnt my lesson and will NEVER (hopefully) abuse wikipedia again. Special thanks to MaxSam for reading my block appeal. And BIG thanks to Yksin for getting so many people aware.
Thank you,
Deco Da Man {talk} 23:34, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

- I'm glad it worked out. Do take some credit for getting helping yourself get out of the block, too, through your explanation of what happened & your apology. You might want to make your archive of the incident more complete too by digging into the edit history of this page & retrieving your explanation... & btw it's rather hard to read the archived version when all the text is centered! See you later. --Yksin 23:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Barnstar thanks. Hey, thanks for the barnstar, what was a really nice thing to see when I logged in this morning. Cool that you went in & thanked MaxSem too. And... your new .sig is soooooooo much better. --Yksin (talk • contribs • count) 21:43, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Block
- This section has been archived to User:Deco_Da_Man/LessonsLearnt.
Well, congrats on your unblock, Deco Da Man! Though it came from a different admin, without you having agreed to what was worked out above between me & Ryulong & Alison, I'd caution you that you'll undoubtedly still need to make the plunge into more edits of actual articles unless you want to face another block. As you know, I didn't think this second block (nor the first, for that matter) was fair -- but that was on the basis of WP:AGF & WP:Please don't bite the newcomers, but in the last analysis Ryulong concerns are legit. I hope you won't be too discouraged, & can take some good from the advice Alison & I offered about how to get started in mainspace editing. The offer of mentorship or WP:AAU still stands, if you'd like. --Yksin 16:21, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- Wow... I haven't been able to go on wikipedia since I put up my second block appeal and sooooo much has happened! Thank you everybody for everything you've done. I had no interest in using this place as MySpace all I was doing was making sure that I knew the policys and proceedures before I went boldly ahead and edited. I occaisnally got distracted and look around user spaces. I apologise for any disruption I have cause, even though I don't see much disruption that I have done. As for Yksin's proposal for adoption (WP:AAU), the answer ⅞ yes (with rounding :D). As for the tips for editing, thanks for those.
Thanks,
Deco Da Man {talk} 08:31, 21 June 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Adoption through WP:AAU
The Resilient Barnstar | ||
Well, Declan, I'm just really chuffed that you haven't been fatally discouraged by this 2nd block. Congrats on having such a great attitude, & on having the resiliency to learn from your mistakes & get up to try again. -- Yksin 18:17, 21 June 2007 (UTC) |
Okay, so in line with your agreement to be adopted under the AAU program, here's one of the standard welcomes:
Hello, Deco Da Man! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia! --Yksin 17:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
You can take this template below & move it to your User page. (I'd do it but I don't as a rule edit other user's user pages, unless expressly invited to on that user's or my own talk page.)
You'll notice on my user page that I've now got a userbox on it identifying myself as having adopted you.
Okay, now down to work: I've established a special talk page at User talk:Yksin/Deco Da Man, where I'd like to keep info relating to this process all in one place. So, after you've read this, please go there. And once again: congrats! --Yksin 17:12, 21 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Attention, error!
Declan, just checking your edits. Um. You seem to have misunderstood something I said at User talk:Yksin/Deco Da Man. Or something. Standard article naming is the same as for headers: only the first word & proper nouns get initial capitals; everything else gets lower case. So, you should not have moved/renamed the article 3D optical data storage to "3D Optical Data Storage": the original name was right, the name you renamed it to is wrong. Needs to be moved back! Hopefully you're still online & will get this message to do it before I get up in the morning. If not, I'll move/rename it myself in the morning. It's currently my 12:30 AM, your 6:30 PM I think. I'm copying this message over to User talk:Yksin/Deco Da Man; please reply there. --Yksin 08:40, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ak.. I just relised, I'll fix it now. Sorry :(. Deco Da Man {talk} 08:43, 23 June 2007 (UTC).
- Fixed! Btw, it's 4:46 PM where I am. Deco Da Man {talk} 08:46, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
- Ah good. Whew. Good edits otherwise, good edit summaries too esp. your apology for disruption. You're getting the hang of it. Hmmm... time stuff must be due to changes between daylight savings & standard time in our respective locales. I have a good friend in Brisbane, I'm used to making the time zone conversion but I haven't talked w/ her recently, & I know Queensland is an hour off a lot of the time from most of the rest of the eastern part of Oz anyway. Anyway, copying this stuff over to the regular place, & then off to bed. Keep up the good work. --Yksin
- Yeah... Western Australia is trialing day-light savings for 4 years. We said we don't want it two times, but our government didn't listen. Well... night! Deco Da Man {talk} 08:55, 23 June 2007 (UTC).

[edit] mw:Wikid
Hey, I noticed your page Wikid on mediawiki.org, and I thought i'd comment.
MediaWiki.org is for discussion of the MediaWiki software, and relating extensions etc. As far as I know, tools are sort of edgy so just be aware that another administrator may delete it. I won't, as I like the idea, and I am not fully experienced with MW.org's deletion policies.
Secondly, the rules are the same here, do not sign your name in any article-space pages.
Thirdly, the help wanted section is a bit like an advert - probably best to reword it.
Fourthly, to link to this wiki from another non-wikipedia project, use w:PAGE NAME. The same is for various prefixes, such as the following: meta:PAGE for meta, commons:PAGE for commons, mw:PAGE for mediawiki.org. I fixed up your links on that wiki.
And lastly, Welcome to MediaWiki.org. Thanks! Matt/TheFearow (Talk) (Contribs) (Bot) 22:10, 27 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Week off
(copied from User talk:Yksin/Deco Da Man)
Hey Declan, just to let you know that I'm going to be on a vacation from for a week June 30-July 7 (due to time zone difference, that means your July 1-8). I'll still check in periodically, but not quite as often. Hope all's well with you, with school, with the world. --Yksin 05:46, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Unadopting
Hey Declan,
Since I haven't hear from you since end of June, & there's also been no activity on your account since then, I'm assuming that your current life course is taking you in other directions. I hope it's all going well; meantime, I'm formally "unadopting" you. If you come back, though, don't hesitate to stop by my talk page & say hi. All the best. --Yksin 00:47, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
