Talk:December 21 2012

Although I'm dubious about the value of this page, I disagree with its nomination for speedy deletion, as it is evidently not patent nonsense in the Wikipedia sense. AlexTiefling 16:09, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- You are right, it is not. However, since the information already appears in Maya calendar, this article was changed to a redirect page (the information should appear in one place). Accurizer 16:13, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

- My impression was that this page was intended to use the material from Maya calendar as context for a list of cultural references to the date itself. (The game Rifts comes to mind, for some reason.) AlexTiefling 16:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

- Perhaps it's Torg, rather than Rifts that I mean. AlexTiefling 15:49, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
I'm the creator of this page. It does use information from the Maya calendar page, but that information is just meant to be a starting point. The reason I created a new page for it is because the scope of any article about this date and the ideas surrounding it would clearly be outside the scope of subsection of a subsection of a page about the Mayan calendar. There are alot of people with a lot of ideas about what this date means - for some reason it's been picked up as a date that may signal the the end of the world or it might be the date that ushers in a period of a dramatic change in the world. A simple google search of this date reveals all kinds of ideas that people have about this date. When I get more time, I'll make this page more complete with more ideas, but until then, I suppose a redirect to the Maya calendar page will suffice. takethemud 15:33, 21 November 2006 (UTC)takethemud
- The significance of this date in the Mayan calendar is verifiable and notable, so the redirect seems appropriate. However, as a separate article, it may not meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. Speculation about what this date may mean in other contexts would probably be considered original research, which is not allowed. Also, the article probably would not comply with this policy: Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Before developing an article you should consider whether it would comply with these policies. Accurizer 16:52, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will review all these things before creating an article. I don't know whether it would be original research - there's a good deal of writings out there on what this date will hold for the future . . . we shall see . . . takethemud 02:31, 22 November 2006 (UTC)takethemud
[edit] I saw no mention
I saw no mention of December 21rst 2012, when the mayans predict is the doomsday date (When the sun completes something 26,000 years in the making........coming to the exact center of the galaxy, and the earth completes something 26,000 years in the making......the completing of a "Wobble" on its axis). I say December 21 2012 needs to be a separate article.
