Deckadance (often referred to as DD) is a DJ console and mixing tool developed by Image-Line software. It was released in May of 2007. Deckadance is available as both a standalone application and as a VST plug-in, and can also be downloaded with the release of FL Studio 7 and 8.

[edit] User Interface

Deckadance uses a GUI that slightly resembles that of Image-Line's own FL Studio, which consists of one main window that expands to fill the entire screen.

In the latest release candidate, the program now has the possibility to run in a 'maximized' window to cover the screen. Other changes to the user interface are that the program no longer covers the start bar and that the icons resemble that of Apple's Aqua graphics.

As of 1.3x there are 6 user changeable skins included in the program which are changeable in the setup tab. They are called 'Hi Tech', 'Blue', 'New White', 'Synq', 'Vestax' and 'Dj-Tech'.

[edit] Editions

Deckadance is available in two different editions, with separate features depending upon their target consumer group.

  • Club Edition - Contains all of the features of the Home Edition, in addition to support for timecoded vinyls and CDs including Final Scratch, Serato Scratch Live, MixVibes, Ms Pinky, Torq and many more supported though the "Learn Timecode" feature.[1]

[edit] Version History

The initial "final release" of Deckadance was released on May 3, 2007.

On the 27 December 2007, the Deckadance team released the 3rd release candidate where they showed the new engine completely re-written to that it could run on the Mac OS X platform and potentially on the Linux platform.

In the release of 1.20.6, various users have encountered 'pops and clicks' while playing back music.[19][20][21] Some have been able to get over this problem by installing ASIO4ALL.[22]

On 22nd of February 2008, version 1.3 RC1 was released with many updates including the implementation of OpenGL to speed up Deckadance and also use around 30% of the CPU (rather than reports of the CPU getting up to 100% on the Mac[23]), added native support for Vestax VCM-100, I.MIX and I.MIX Reload, new mapping of the Vestax VCI-100 and automatic storing of cue points.

With the release of 1.30.6 and 1.30.7, the following features have been added and updated.[24]

  • Added jog control to the EXT CTRL panel for House and LE editions.
  • Fixed some bugs in the Vestax and White skins.
  • Improved scratch behavior for the Kontrol Dj KDJ500 controller.
  • Fixed some problems with the sampler when Beat Sync is deactivated.
  • Native support for M-Audio Xponent.
  • Native support for Hercules Console MK2 (Windows and Mac OS X).
  • Native support for Hercules Control MP3 (Windows and Mac OS X).
  • Fixed a bug in the Vestax VCI-100 mapping that caused problems with the jogs.
  • Improved pitch fluctuation behavior in DVS.
  • Added direct links to get more information about the supported remote controllers.
  • Fixed some problems with the sampler in the PowerPC architecture (Mac OS X).
  • Added new skins: Blue, New White, Synq, Vestax and Dj-Tech.
  • Removed the old black, white and vestax skins.

In 1.30.8 the new DVS has been removed in the special case of timecode CDs and the Hercules DJ console RMX and the EKS XP10 and XP5 have been given native support.[25]

[edit] Complications and known issues

A few users have reported that the Behringer BCD-3000 have created Blue Screens of Death while running Deckadance (in either standalone or VSTi mode)[26]
