Decile
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- In descriptive statistics, a decile is any of the 9 values that divide the sorted data into 10 equal parts, so that each part represents 1/10th of the sample or population. Thus:
- The 1st decile cuts off lowest 10% of data, i. e., the 10th percentile.
- The 5th decile cuts off lowest 50% of data, i. e., the 50th percentile, 2nd quartile, or median.
- The 9th decile cuts off lowest 90% of data, i. e., the 90th percentile.
- See Fisher's method for an example.
- In astrology, a decile is an aspect of 36 degrees. It is one-tenth of the 360 degree circle that forms our zodiac. The decile is regarded by astrologers as a mildly beneficial aspect.
