Decembrists Square
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Decembrists Square (Russian: Площадь Декабристов) is a historic city square in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is situated on the bank of the Neva River, in front of Saint Isaac's Cathedral.
Until 1925 it was known as Senate Square. In that year it was renamed Decembrists Square to mark the centenary of the Decembrist Revolt, which had taken place there.
The square is bounded by the Russian Admiralty to the east. On the west are the Imperial Senate buildings (now headquarters of the Constitutional Court of Russia). It is now a major tourist attraction as it is home to the Bronze Horseman. The square is also a major place to shoot fireworks at holidays.
