[edit] Grammostola rosea atacamensis

"But anything hairy reddish isn't automatically a Chilean rose? Debolaz 10:33, 1 July 2007 (UTC)"

Of course not. I am only wondering from where on earth comes the animal legitimately called Grammostola rosea (Walckenaer), and in an accessory way, "Chilean rose". Here its habitat is given as "Atacama", an extreme desert; there, as "Chile", a country that extends 4500 km from Peru to the Straits; and elsewhere in wikipedia I find "Chile, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina", which is only a bit less than the entire continent. A clue is that it seems to be massively exported from Chile. What part of Chile? The Atacama is an unlikely source of large numbers of a spider the size of G. rosea. My guess is that they are collected in the "matorral" of Central Chile, but I dont know yet would like to know. --Lupo Manaro (talk) 23:26, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
