[edit] Welcome

Hello Dean P Foster, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  --TantalumTelluride 20:41, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

P.S. I have noticed your edits at List of statisticians and I would strongly advise you to consider putting the names that you deleted back on the list. Mike Dugas, although famous for his political ambitions, is a professional statistician, while Jeff Sagarin is a sports analyst who relies heavily upon statistics. They might not have made major contributions to the field of statistics, but they are very notable individuals who happen to be statisticians. I don't want to get into an edit war with a newcomer, so I'm going to let you make the call. I just thought I should share my opinion. --TantalumTelluride 01:54, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

You're right; I didn't realize that Dugas was hardly notable in politics as well as statistics. Apparently, his article barely survived an AfD nomination back in July. As for Sagarin, I'm not sure how notable he is; but since you're a professor of statistics and you don't think he belongs on the list, then he should probably be left off.
You're first edit was a red flag at Special:Recent changes because you were a new user without a user page and you're first edit was a deletion. I welcomed you because I think it's important for new users to be welcomed and then I gently reprimanded you because I thought you were being too bold with your deletions. However, now that I know you're a professor and I can see that you've made some real contributions to Wikipedia, I can trust your opinion about the deletions. By the way, if you plan to continue contributing to Wikipedia, you might want to put a brief autobiography or profile on your user page so that other Wikipedians won't have to make the same assumptions that I did. Your user page is at User:Dean P Foster. --TantalumTelluride 03:50, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
