[edit] Notability

It's ridiculous to try and state that DPI is not notable. It is one of the longest running power electronics projects out there. Many notable members of the power electronics scene have been involved in the past and the project continues to be active in various units to this day. - Prenna 2:26pm 24/06/2007

The issue is not whether DPI is notable or not. The issue is whether or not this article establishes that notability via published, third-party sources. Lots of noise artists' articles fail to do this. I'm trying to improve this situation. Thanks for your help. Cheers, Doctormatt 16:37, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
Fair enough. I think an issue with proving notability in the noise scene (particularly the harsher/PE end of it) is the ephemeral nature of third party sources such as zines and websites. Makes this job a pain in the arse for some projects. - Prenna 3:15am 25/06/07 (UTC)

It looks to me like we're got the third-party references sourced. I'm clearing the notability tag. DrJon 07:42, 19 August 2007 (UTC) Probably need to find a third-party source for the "First Open-Source Music" statement, though. DrJon 07:44, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I'm not sure a source could be found for such a claim. Perhaps it should be removed. Prenna 09:25 20 August 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure that these sources qualify in establishing notability. At least regarding the online ones, I don't think they are extensive (there is very little information regarding DPI) or necessarily reliable. Also, I can't find any information about this "Black Magazine", for instance. It appears that there may be several magazines in the world called "Black", so this reference needs more info to nail down exactly what the source is. My guess is it is probably this [1] magazine, but the reference in the article gives a specific date, not an issue number and month as the magazine appears to use now. Similary, Chainlink DLK is probably this [2] but no such interview is listed at their site, despite its extensive backlog.
I worry about noise music articles on Wikipedia. Very few of them establish notability to the level that is required by WP standards, and I'm afraid someone will come along and AfD all of them into oblivion. But I'm at a loss for good sources. Any help would be appreciated. Doctormatt 17:11, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, it's unfortunate that Chainlink DLK's archive doesn't go back far enough but that doesn't alter the fact that they did interview Marco and he did talk about DPI. I'll do my best to find the issue number of the Black magazine interview if there is one to be had. The releases on two notable labels covers DPI in terms of notability however.
When it comes down to it though, it is Wiki's loss if noise artists start getting deleted for not being internet rockstars. I'm sure the noise subcultures can survive without it. Having said that most of the noise artists on wiki are "bigger" acts who easily meet the "5. Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable)." (such as DPI) it probably just takes some editing. -Prenna 09:23 20 August 2007 (UTC)
