Talk:Dean Z
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Information?
The Dean Z, like their counterpart the Dean ML, were designed with the ultimate in tone, sustain and playability in mind. These models have dramatic string angles at the bridge and nut and a string thru body design featuring the original V plate. The added string length created by the exclusive headstock coupled with the original Dean neck design is how the Z achieves its "incredible ease of play". Still offered in their original configuration, the Z has withstood the test of time.
Is it just me, or does this sound like an advertisement right from the company? This doesn't seem very informative at all, and could be summed up in a sentence as "buy the Dean Z." ~~mcfaddenator~~
Nope, not just you McF. It's a quote from the new company's website. The instruments are not the same as pre mid-eighties Deans, alot of the history seems glossed over. That quote leaves out significant changes in construction and suppliers which have a marked affect on the value of the instrument.
eg: (Also quoted from their present website, page 2);
"Basswood Body - Zebra Pickups - Bolt-on Construction - Maple Neck & Rosewood Fingerboard"
Different point of manufacture not mentioned. Different wood, construction type and pick-ups than the "original configuration". The new ones may look like the duck, but they don't sound like the duck. Original Deans were frankly amazing guitars, I have one and it is easily the best of several high quality guitars owned ... (except for the discomfort of that big freakin' wing stickin' in my skinny meat-forsaken ribs). ~~O'Dunny~~
