• "The Horror" samples the theme music from Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and First Moog Quartet's song Hey Hey.
• "Smoke and Mirrors" contains vocal samples from "Who Knows" by Marion Black and "Waterfall" by Cris Williamson, and musical excerpts from "Heaven Knows" Written by N Champion and A Howard.
• "Ghostwriter" contains a sample from deceased indie singer-songwriter Elliott Smith, from his song "I Didn't Understand," off the album XO.
• "Chicken-Bone Circuit" contains a sample from Jimmy Page's extended guitar solo from "Dazed and Confused", taken from the live Led Zeppelin album: "The Song Remains the Same"
• "The Proxy" is built around a sample of Pat Metheny performing the first movement of Steve Reich's "Electric Counterpoint."
• The B-side remix of the album cut "June" starts with a sample from Brian Eno's Music for Airports.

• "Ghostwriter" was featured in a 2005 UK TV advertisement for Anadin Extra, as well as in the opening credits to the 2004 romantic comedy Wimbledon and 2005 romantic comedy Prime. In America it is featured in advertisements for Wells Fargo bank.

• "Smoke and Mirrors" was featured in the 2004 Skate Video "Paul Rodriguez's Forecast" in which the track was used in Paul Rodriguez's part.
• Early copies included a "hidden" song on the same track as "Work," titled "Here's What's Left." A slow, wistful track making use of sampled vocals, much like "Smoke and Mirrors". Def Jux was forced to drop it from later pressings due to a sample clearance problem.
