User talk:Dbach
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!
Here are some tips to help you get started:
- If you haven't already, please add your name to the new user log to let others know a little about yourself.
- Read the Tutorial, and feel free to experiment in the Sandbox.
- Eventually, you might want to read the Manual of Style and Policies and Guidelines.
- If you need help, post a question at the Help Desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Explore, be bold in editing pages, and, most importantly, have fun!
Good luck!
Jrdioko
P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

[edit] Doctors
Hi DBach, I should have noticed before that you're a doctor! Would you join the local staff at the WikiProject "Clinical medicine"? There's also a WikiProject "Psychopathology", but I'd rather lure you away from there, because you seem to know a lot about somatic medicine as well. Then there's WikiProject "Drugs", which is presently being populated and which attempts to knock the pharmacotherapeutical side of this project into shape. JFW | T@lk 15:29, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- What has to be done? Well, some neurology pages have been written up nicely, but others contain lay vocabulary and lack recent research. Ophthalmology pages (probably not your immediate interest) are largely the product of spammers who wanted to advertise their LASIK clinics, and could really do with work.
- Otherwise, irritable bowel syndrome is still a bit messy, and could benefit from an approach that we've followed on many other medicine articles (see e.g. angiodysplasia). JFW | T@lk 18:50, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)
[edit] IBS Discussion
I agree that you don't want to scare people by suggesting that they might have something worse than what they really have. In my case, I would be overjoyed if I learned that my problem was celiac disease, because at least then I could do something about the problem. Since my physician can't give me any answers I am left to wondering and trying to figure it out for myself. Sorry I took out my frustration on you. H2O 21:11, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Loperamide
On a different note -- here is a puzzle for you -- about 10 years ago I was in Honduras for a couple of weeks and got diarrhea. I took a standard dose of loperamide and afterward experienced mild disorientation and hallucinations. For this reason I have never taken this drug again. Now I am reading that this drug cannot pass the blood-brain barrier. Do you have an explanation for this? Just curious. H2O 21:54, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. I had heard of leaky gut, thought there might be such a thing as leaky brain. That would explain a lot. Take care. H2O 19:42, 5 Jul 2004 (UTC)
[edit] IBS
Impressed by the IBS page. Very good work has been done there. I am not very good at neurogastroenterology, so I trust your insights. JFW | T@lk 10:39, 8 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Old revisions deleted
As a developer I've removed the versions of your user page wich contained your name. If you want the remaining revisions deleted any admin can take care of it (unless you're unlucky and the early one happens to be caught up in another compression run, in which case, please ask me on my talk page and I'll take care of removing it). Jamesday 04:21, 17 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Are there still any of your user pages that need to be deleted? Let me know if you need assistance with that. Joyous 23:01, Jan 22, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging Image:Red Herring Surf.jpg
|
Thanks for uploading Image:Red Herring Surf.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
[edit] Copywrite and fair use
Fair use says "Fair use makes copyrighted work available to the public as raw material without the need for permission or clearance, so long as such free usage serves the purpose of copyright law, which the U.S. Constitution defines as the promotion of "the Progress of Science and useful Arts" (I.1.8), better than the legal enforcement of claims of infringement."
See [1] for further information.
"RULES OF THUMB FOR COURSEPACKS
The Classroom Guidelines that were negotiated in 1976 can provide helpful guidance and we recommend that you read them. 1. Limit coursepack materials to
- single chapters
- single articles from a journal issue
- several charts, graphs or illustrations
- other similarly small parts of a work. "
from [2] illustrates the principle of extracting part of a work being covered by fair use.
The New York Times itself quotes others.
"Copyright protects the particular way an author has expressed himself; it does not extend to any ideas, systems, or factual information conveyed in the work." [3] therefore a quote that essentially lists facts isn't even covered by copywrite in the first place.
Wikipedia primary servers are in the US.
While it would be nice to have no legal complications, the rich in this world are seeking to own everything including math equations (which is what software patents are).
Don't help memes that block the free flow of information. Help memes that promote freedom. Fair use is one such doctrine, law and meme. WAS 4.250 13:48, 24 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category:Wineries of the Holy Land
Hi Dbach. I have changed the category to Category:Wineries of the Middle East. There is now more than one article in this category. Scharks 13:58, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article on Beit Shemesh
Hi Dbach. I noticed you changed Beit Jimmel to Beit Jala in this article. Are you sure that the original author was not referring to the wine made by the residents of the Beit Jamal convent?
--Shlomo 08:23, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Might be - however the sentence read: Cremisan cellars in Beit Jimmel. Cremisan is in Beit Jala. I know that Cremisan processes Beit Shemesh grapes, I have no idea about Beit Jamal - might be. Dbach 08:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
