[edit] Railway stations in Israel
So that people don't delete your railway station articles before you have finished them, please don't post articles until they're ready. Otherwise, another editor might think there was nothing there and delete the article. Please see Binyamina Railway Station, where I added some text from another article. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 05:53, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the advice. I'll try to work on every article separately and only then move on to the next one. I'm still learning... Db1944 12:47, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Could you please take some photographs of rail stations and upload them to http://commons.wikimedia.org Once photographs have been added there, they can be used in any of the Wikipedias, including English, Hebrew, and any other language that is of interest to you. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 11:29, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
- Although I myself use the train fairly often I visit only a limited number of stations, but as soon as the current crisis ends - the stations will reopen and I'll be able to take a photo. I have to say that I found photos of many other stations on other sites on the internet but because the rules of copyrighting aren't clear to me (even after I've read Wikipedia:Copyrights) I'm not sure whether or not it's legal for me to use them in my articles. Db1944 15:19, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hello
Shalom,
I just wanted to thank you for your work on Israel Railways station articles. I always wanted to do this, never made it. Just a suggestion: maybe the links to Israel Railways' site and חדשות הרכבת in every page are redudant. I think it's enough to have them on the main Israel Railways page.
Thanks, IgKh 15:05, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
- I myself though about it a lot and at the end I decided that these two sites have a section describing the stations and should be included in the external link section, but maybe this should be reconsidered. I'd love to hear some thoughts about this. Besides that, thanks for the support. I'm doing the best I can but sometimes it's really hard to find specific details (especially historical ones) about the stations and unfortunately I don't have photos of them, so the work is going pretty slow. Db1944 20:37, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

- There is this source: [1] and this one: [2], which I belive is fairly reliable and interesting. Regarding Tel-Aviv Merkaz there are a lot of facts: it was opened in 1954 along side with the new coastal rail, replacing Bene Beraq station (then called Tel Aviv Tzafon) as Tel Aviv's northbound rail station. The platforms moved to their current position in Ayalon after the openning of the Ayalon Line in 1993. The station hall was re-built in 2004-5, and the foot bridge to Ramat-Gan openning in the late 90's IIRC.
-
- Also, when I initialy worked on the "Start Israel Railways Box" template and applied it to Jerusalem's rail stations I used south to north sematics (i.e., Jerusalem Malcha's previous station was terminus). You used north to south sematics (Nehariya's previouse station is also terminus). The jerusalem station should therefore be revised. Also, as of the new scheduale the line Jerusalem-Kfar Saba no longer exists. It has been splitten to the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Merkaz and Kfar Saba-Tel Aviv HaHagana lines. Thanks, IgKh 16:06, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

-
- I’ve read about the new schedule but haven’t seen it yet, the moment I’ll get my hands on it I’ll revise the templates. I also wanted to thank you for the links you’ve provided, I’ve used the first one numerous times but I was unaware of the second one – it’s great! Any and all other suggestions will be appreciated. [edit] Re: railway stations
No problem, I was touring the country the last couple days and have photos of several other train stations. However, they're not very good and I'm not sure if I should upload them. There are also photos of other things of course, I will be sorting through them in the coming days and seing if any of them should be on Wikipedia. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 17:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Db
Hi DB, i appreciate your appreciation for my pics of Tel Aviv, if your interested, i have tons of more pictures, all available here -- http://www.pbase.com/beivushtang also, i have some Jerusalem pics i'd like to add to the Jerusalem article, but it's blocked from editing by a wikipedia-newbie like me, maybe you can add them.
Beivushtang 09:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I’ve seen some more of your photographs and they’re amazing! You can count me as one of your fans. About the Jerusalem article – I see that while I was investigating the issue of you being unable to add your photographs it all sorted itself out, and I’m glad it did. I’d be happy to be of assistance at any time.

[edit] Re: Infobox Israel muni
I disagree that it should be removed. When a population figure is given anywhere, the first thing the reader wants to know is what year the census/estimate was taken. Especially considering the fact that in some countries no census or educated estimate has been made for 10+ years. The reader likely wants to know how up to date the information is. In any case, even if not everyone may benefit from knowing the estimate year, I still don't see how it harms the template. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:06, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Road designation
I think your translations are accurate, although if you can, try to check in an authorized government source (they probably thought of translating it to English at least once, although at the moment I can't find any information in English on the MoT site). And yes, Highway 443 should probably be called Road 443, or a more neutral Route 443. The blue roads should be called freeway in English IMO, because it clearly indicates that they are just that - freeways (כביש מהיר). I edited one image caption because it called a blue road an expressway, which is incorrect. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 19:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- Great, so I’ll change the other image captions to match. I’ll hold off the moving of the articles (Route 90 should be Highway 90, and Highway 443 should be Route 443) until I’ll find out the official designations. Db1944 19:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Good job on all the transportation infrastructure. I hope I didn't add to the confusion with my naming of 443, but I'm not quite sure if colour should be the primary means of naming, especially when [green] roads like 443 have lane separation and partial grade separation, while [red] 'highways' like 7 (an extreme example I admit), whose single digit designation suggests a main artery, are merely the most simple of local roads. Then again, there's no need to add organisation on Wikipedia to the casualty list of those responsible for road designations. I'm also curious about how you are manufacturing the road-sign images. Cheers, TewfikTalk 05:59, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

- First of all I want to say that I completely agree with you that the numbering and color classification used by the Israeli MoT are somewhat lacking, but they’re the official standard, so in the name of order and coherency they are the ones we have to use. I personally believe that article names should be divided into “Highways” and “Routes”. Highways should include freeways and expressway (as designated by the MoT – blue and red), and Routes should be roads of enough significance to be included in Wikipedia but of regional and local designation. The specific designation should be noted only in the article itself. I hope this plan of action is acceptable to all, and if not I’d love to debate it! I’ve been in contact with the MoT spokesperson regarding some of these issues and he referred me to the traffic planning department. I’m planning to call them soon, so if you have any queries you’d like to add please let me know!
About the road-signs – they were done by the most low-tech means possible, using PowerPoint and drawing by eye. I hope the result is satisfactory despite the primitive means. Good Day, Db1944 13:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Hey David;
Hope your getting on well. I would like to apologise for my absense from Wikipedia - but I feel it is justified after (a) my huge workload, and (b) the fact I've been editing Wikipedia non-stop (bar holiday x1) for over a year! I hope I haven't impaired your editing because of a lack of advice and I hope it won't need to happen again!
Just dropping you a message that I've replied to your numerous requests for advice on my talk page. Also, newsflash :) I've completed the review! It's very short and to the point, but it contains everything there is to say!
Cheers and regards,

[edit] Israeli Highways routebox
I think this template needs another name. First of all because route is like highway, so it basically says Israeli highway highwaybox. But there are other reasons, like the fact that it's an infobox. Also it's not according to MOS ('highways' should not be capitalized) etc. I think the name should be: Infobox Israel highway. If you think this is bad, please state your reasons and we will discuss the naming. I will not move the template until you reply. I will however make cosmetic changes to its structure. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 18:01, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I have no problem with the renaming and you’re free to move it. I was just modeling it after the UK Motorway Routbox. The colors I chose were shades of blue and white, but again – feel free to correct anything you feel is necessary. Db1944 18:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Co-adopter
Hi Db1944,
I see you are looking for a co-adopter, and am willing to help out. Check out my user page, and leave a message on my talk page if this suggestion good with you. Would be happy to continue using the talk page you have been using with Anthony. Cheers Lethaniol 19:53, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Lethaniol, thank you for your kind offer. I’m happy to accept it. It’s going to be an intensive week at work, so I think I won’t be able to devote much time to editing, but I hope things will improve soon and I’ll clear up some time. Just to inform you, I’ve currently undertaken 2 major projects and hoping to ease in to a third one:
- Standardizing, expanding and adding articles about highways in Israel (I’ve created Template:Infobox Israel highway and formulated a table to list the interchanges and junctions). A finished example you can see at Highway 1 (Israel). Next I’ll continue to other highway already listed in Wikipedia, and then I’ll revise the article text itself to a more coherent form, finally I’ll add new highway articles.
- Creating articles for all railway stations in Israel. I’ve completed 14 out of 37 existing stations. It’s hard work because information is hard to come by, so I ran out of steam. Hope to get back to it soon. A finished example you can see at Haifa Bat Galim Railway Station.
- My future project is translating the stubs about Israeli towns and villages from the Hebrew Wikipedia, which has an article (even if it’s a stub) on every settled location in Israel, no mater how small it is. I believe that the English Wikipedia is in great need for such an important geographical data-base.
- Unfortunately Anthony didn’t have the spare time to look over the pages I’ve pointed out here, but I’d really appreciate an honest and professional opinion on them, so (only) if you have the time – I’d love it if you’d take a look.
- Last but not least – I’m not sure if using Anthony’s talk page (the one assigned to my discussions with him) is appropriate. The caption on the page says This section is reserved for conversations between User:Db1944 and Anthony cfc only. I’m reluctant to ignore it without Anthony’s explicit permission. I have not problem with using my talk page, it’s not overwhelmingly busy here anyway.

- I accept - all of my adoptees up till now have asked technical and procedural questions, so it would be fun to do some article reviewing (articles what are those - I only see talk pages at the moment :(:( ). Am happy to use your talk page, I will watch it, so any questions leave them there. I will in the next few days look at your first two projects and see what they are all about, and see what we can see. Speak again soon, and do not be afraid to ask anything. Cheers Lethaniol 00:11, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Infobox Highways
Have had a look and also at M25 motorway and Template:UK motorway routebox. I think the content is fine, it is just a question of formatting. In your template the text is IMHO (in my humble opinion) too small - M25 one more readable. Would be great if the image could be in the box again look at M25 example. Also in Highway 1 (Israel) there is unnecessary spacing above each of the text in each box - need to get rid of. Unlike the M25 example you have a better width for the infobox. I hope that helps. Will get back to later about the other issues - Lethaniol 14:39, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- The change in font size was not my idea, but in the full-sized version many of the names didn’t fit into one line. The spacing is a result of adding the bullet point and the need for & n b s p ; (again – not my idea). I’d REALLY appreciate it if you could suggest a way to fix these two problems. The border-line is a great idea – didn’t even notice it. It seems I have some disagreement about the design with Ynhockey, but hopefully we’ll work things out. By the way, thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly with this. Db1944 19:32, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Well have come up with a really inelegant solution - you need to have something on that first line so can just put in a "<div>" on each and it tidies up. Really think all the bullet points should be removed - really no point - it is obvious that they are lists. Also should increase font size - could increase width of box if helps. Also in the last bit of table everything has junction afterwards - would personally just removed them all. Lethaniol 16:52, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Haifa Bat Galim Railway Station
HI there DB1944
Had a look at this article requested, also in area close to my heart as my best friend is Bahá'í.
Three things only -
- In the History section - too many paragraphs - condense it a bit.
- Timetables - as unlikely to be kept up to date all the time, do not give specific times, maybe a general feel for where and how often - but give link to current timetable on website - easier to keep up to date.
- Otherwise - very good. Good structure, content and formatting. Well done. If you keep us this standard for the other Railway stations you are doing very well.
Cheers Lethaniol 00:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Good Evening (GMT)!
I hope you have had an enjoyable Christmas. I have now recovered from my medical-related Wikibreak and I can now devote full attention to your queries! I hope my arrangements for your questions in my absense (User:Daveydweeb, a User I trust immensely) have proved satisfactory.
I have just realised that my upload of the review on the Israeli railway article was not successful. Since I have a new computer now, I will have to find a way to salvage the old file..or do another review! Never mind - I have just written another review (located here). Cheers
Wishing you all the best

[edit] Co-Adopter Hello
Hi Db1944,
Now that Anthony is back I thought I would drop by and see if you wanted to keep my services. You may have found my reviews of your work a bit critical - so might want to get rid of me. If you do not I am happy to help whenever. Either way, I look forward to hearing from you. Cheers Lethaniol 21:43, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi
Are you part of Wikiproject Judaism or Israel? frummer 01:00, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Actually I’m not part of any wikiproject, I’d be glad if you’d explain to me what memberships are for, and how I can contribute. Thanks Db1944 19:42, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- There appears to be no answer from User:Frummer, so I will take the liberty of answering in his 'stead. WikiProjects are a collection of pages maintained by a group of Wikipedians interested and/or knowledgable in that area. They vary in size and scope (number of articles taken in) but there is just about a WikiProject for everything. However, Wikiprojects are not a place to write encyclopedia articles directly, but a resource to help coordinate and organize article writing. For example, I am interested in Public Transport, in particular trains and even more specifically trains in Glasgow, Scotland. Therefore I have joined WikiProject Trains and Wikiproject:British Rail with an area of expertise listed as First Scotrail (the Scottish and Glaswegian Train service operator).
-
- Joining a WikiProject is easy, there are no requirements and you can join as many or as little as you wish. There is also no obligation to participate (you can participate as little or as much as you want) and you can leave whenever you wish. On top of this, it is important to remember that although most projects have their own to-do list, these are only "brainstorming areas" to give you an idea of where you can start - again, there is no obligation to take any of the to-do items at any time..or you can take as many as you want!
-
- I hope this has answered your question; if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask. Also, may I take this oppurtunity to notify you that I've replied at the classroom concerning the "status system".

[edit] GA nomination for Cambuslang railway station
Good evening (GMT time); hope that you're well, David, and that the editing is coming on nicely! I've got a Good Article candidate up just now for Cambuslang railway station, an article contributed to mainly by myself. This is the second GA I've put forward, the last being Paddington station which is now a GA and Portal:Train's selected article <insert more smug comments :)> Knowing how long the GA wait is, I'd appreciate if you could pass or fail the article according to your best judgement and considerable railway knowledge. Please remember to stay neutral - when evaluating it, I am an anonomous editor and not your adopter; I appreciate honesty more than a forced smile and a pass.
Remember, if you have any questions please post them at the help centre; also, check out my most recent essay at the classroom talk page on Disputes - it's pretty useful. Here's a link collection: Good Articles; GA Candidates; link to nomination page; Cambuslang railway station (article under review); and finally, GA standards. Once again, hope you're well and happy editing!

[edit] Rail transport related assessments
Hello, Anthony cfc asked me for clarification on some edits I made to articles that you've been working on. It took me a bit longer than I intended to get back to my promise to leave you comments directly, but here goes...
The first point I'd like to make is that a low importance rating in the {{TrainsWikiProject}} banner is not a vote for deletion. Articles that are rated as low importance can be of very high quality (the article on Jordanhill railway station in Scotland, for example, is currently listed as a Good article, has appeared as the "Selected article" on Portal:Trains, and with a little more work could become a Featured article). The importance rating in the project banner indicates the subject's importance to understanding rail transport history and technology on a worldwide scale. Using the Trains project importance scale, the vast majority of local railway stations will be rated as low importance. The class parameter describes how close the article is to Featured quality; the quality rating is independent of the article's content and any WikiProjects that the article may be a part of. Once the ratings are applied to an article, the article is listed in an automatically generated worklist for articles within the scope of WikiProject Trains.
Since August 2006, I've gone through a couple thousand articles related to rail transport to apply quality and importance ratings to them, and there are many thousand more articles yet to be rated, so I usually don't spend a lot of time leaving comments on specific articles. I don't claim to be a ratings guru, I'm just the editor who's been doing most of the work for WikiProject Trains. This week I've been working through a large batch of articles related to the New York City Subway system (and coincidentally, here, the majority of those articles are also getting rated as start or stub class and low importance). For a little further insight into the process, I've collected some of the comments I've made in replies to questions about the ratings. If you'd like more thorough comments on specific articles and how they can be improved, I would be happy to oblige (but I can sometimes take a while to get back to specific requests, so please be patient). In general, I find the Good article criteria a good place to start for article improvement ideas.
Another of the tasks that I periodically perform with WikiProject Trains is disambiguation link repair. It's through the "what links here" link for Platform that I came across the station articles you've worked on. These articles didn't already have the project banner on their talk pages, so when I went through with the link updates, I added the banner and appropriate parameters to them as I normally do with all rail transport related articles that I update.
I think I've hit all the points that are most important in my recent edits. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page. Slambo (Speak) 14:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Just my two pence here, but this does seem to justify and clarify Slambo's actions. Stick in there, David - the articles have come a long way, and are on their way to greatness. Regards, Anthonycfc [T • C] 00:45, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] optimus vota
Good morning (GMT time), for the last time.
I am leaving the project, in favour of a more worthwhile cause; may I take this oppurtunity to say that it has been an absolute honour serving you as an adopter, and I take away nothing but good memories of you. It is unfortunate that I must depart when we are still in the middle of our coaching, but I have made relevant preperations for you and I leave in the hope that these preperations last longer than any good wishes, and they shape you into the wonderful Wikipedian you are emerging to be.
I leave you with some parting advice:
(a). -- never ever lose your cool.
(b). -- if you are in a dispute, walk away.
(c). -- try to remain neutral at all times - especially when you gain experience and people begin to ask your advice.
A visit from you over at simple would be fantastic, and I await your post in anticipation.
I leave you now, and wish you the best of luck in all that you attempt; remember - I will be back.
So long and thanks for all the fish.

[edit] Adopt-a-user Classroom
Hi Db1944,
Hope you are well - it is a shame to lose Anthony to Simple Wikipedia - but then this place can strain your nerves sometimes.
I wanted to ask about using Anthony's classroom. We can either carry on using his classroom, or we can make one as a sub page of your user space. Either way I do not think Anthony would mind and I certainly do not.
Also as I was busy at the time, I did the review of Nahariya Railway Station on the run - do you think you have enough to work on with these reviews, or would like some more feedback, maybe in a particular area of concern. Just say and I will go back and have a more thorough look. Alternatively you could do the work you want to do on the article first then ask for another review, either way is fine. Cheers Lethaniol 17:12, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

That was some excellent work you did adding flags unto every linked metropolis; it has greatly improved the article. Raifʻhār Doremítzwr 19:01, 3 February 2007 (UTC) |
- Congratulations! I can't think of a more deserving editor to receive this award; a more detailed reply has been left in response to your post at my simple.wikipedia talk page. Hoping you are well, Anthonycfc [T • C] 17:00, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Simple->English return
Good evening (GMT time); I hope you're well, and that things have been well at English in my absence. I've just dropped by to let you know that I've finished my Wikibreak from wikipedia.english, and that I'm now contributing here as well. That means that I'm always here if you need me!
I think - unless you terminated it - the adoption still stands, and I'd love for it to continue. However, I will whole-heartedly support you if you do not want an adopter who prefers to be on the move than at the one project for months on end.
Don't hesitate to give me a shout!
Kind regards,
Anthonycfc [T • C] 20:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] how do you create the Israeli road symbols?
I'd like to create some new ones, prefereably in SVG. can you give me any insights or files for that? 84.229.252.165 09:00, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
- Actually I've used a very low-tech method! I've created a template power-point file that contains the frame and the number, each time I just change the number inside. The next step is to copy-paste the frame and number to the windows painter and save it as a PNG file. Can’t help you with the SVG part because I’m not familiar with it either. I’m sure there’s a much simpler way of doing it but this is the way I came up with and it keeps all the symbols identical. I’d be glad to send you the template power-point file! If you wish to avoid the grueling work you can send me a list of symbols that you think are needed and I’d be glad to create and upload them. Good day Db1944 15:08, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Russian version of Israel highways
Hello, Db1944. I'm user of the Russian Wikipedia, I known as Юкатан.
I want to create in Russian Wikipedia articles about highways in Israel. Yesterday I have created an article about highway #5. Could you help me in this project? By the way thanx for the pictures of highway numbers.
--87.68.56.38 15:36, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Hey Юкатан, I’d be happy to help! The problem is, while I speak and read Russian well, my writing is very poor. Editing the articles would be a problem for me, but I’d be happy to review them and help with the materials. You’re welcomed to ask for whatever you need! Db1944 13:04, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, can you please create a road number image for a planned Highway 9? The missing image looks really ugly here. Thanks in advance! -- Ynhockey (Talk) 12:26, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:LocationQB.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:LocationQB.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 12:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
