[edit] Reason for creation

I created this template because I got sick and tired of typing it out manually all of the time. Timesaver, it is.--Blu Aardvark | (talk) | (contribs) 13:16, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

I've moved this template to {{deletebecause/empty}} in order to help clean up the CSD category listing. {{db:a1}} redirects here. --Blu Aardvark | (talk) | (contribs) 08:59, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TfD

[edit] rename

I moved this tempalte to {{Db-empty}} so that all the speedy deletion templates would have consistant names, and would all group together in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion. DES (talk) 22:56, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redirects

{{dbe}} redirects here. --malathion talk 08:26, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

So do {{empty}}, {{Db:a1}}, and {{deletebecause/empty}}. DES (talk) 16:36, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Transclusion

This template is currently implemented by Transclusion. Before changing this, please look at Template talk:Db-reason#Transclusion, where the issue of using tranclusion in the speedy deletion templates is discussed. DES (talk) 17:28, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Context" or "content"?

I believe there's a minor vocabulary error here. "Little or no content" makes more sense than "little or no context". - Rlw (Talk) 18:50, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

It has always been context, see Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#A1. --cesarb 20:29, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
The point is, if there is no conTEXT, no one else can determine hopw to expand article or validate the information in it. Little conTENT, as long as there is some content, and some context, has potential for expansion. Thus it is articles lacking in context that are speedy candidates. DES (talk) 21:11, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks for the clarification. - Rlw (Talk) 21:41, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Please read Template talk:Db-reason before editing.

If you are contemplating editing this template, especially with regards to categorization or parameters, please read the discussion at Template talk:Db-reason.

{{db-reason}} is the meta-template from which all these templates derive, and is also used for CSD in its own right. Some of the other CSD templates are also used both as meta-templates, and as templates in their own right. Because of this, the relationship between these templates, their parameters, and the issue of categorization (so that candiate articles get categorized, but the templates temselves don't) is more complex that it appears at first glance. The discussion on Template talk:Db-reason should elucidate some of these issues. Jamie (talk/contribs) 04:26, 24 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Changing this template to add CSD A3

This template is a bit of a misnomer IMO. Although it is called empty in fact it references CSD A1 which is no context. The actual CSD dealing with emptiness is A3 which is No content whatsoever (or all links, etc.). This seems like a poor state of affairs. Rather than change this template to be A3 only (which will screw up everyone who uses this template knowing it means A1), I'd like to change the text so it reads It is a very short article providing little or no context (CSD A1), or contains no content whatsoever, consists only of links elsewhere or a rephrasing of the title (CSD A3). I would just make this change, but it seems that it would affect a lot of editors so I'm proposing it here first. Barring any objections I'll make the change. cmh 06:17, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

That seems like a very good idea to me. Thryduulf 12:40, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Changing Template:Db-nocontext

Template:Db-nocontext, Template:Csd-a1, Template:nocontext, Template:Db:a1, Template:Dba1 and Template:Db-a1 all redirect here. However, this template quotes not only CSD A1 (no context) but also CSD A3 (empty). It would be clearer if Template:Db-nocontext et al. only quoted CSD A1, much as Template:Nocontext did in the past. I am requesting comments on this change. Spacepotato 06:53, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

The problem is that the name of this template:{{empty}} does not imply A1 (no context), but rather A3 (no content). Really, the two branches should be split, as they are very different reasons for speedy. This could be done, but will screw up all the recent changes patrollers who know these templates by heart, and they are very frequently used. See the discussion just above this section. So I wouldn't really be in favour of going back to the old way where it's called empty but means no context. -- cmh 19:48, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
To clarify, I am not proposing changing this template, but the ones listed above, which are the templates whose names include either A1 or no context. Spacepotato 19:53, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. I assume you've publicized this in other places users of those redirects will see? -- cmh 23:52, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
No. What place do you think is suitable (besides here)? Spacepotato 02:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion as people likely watch that but not all the templates. -- cmh 00:29, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

No objection there—made the change. Spacepotato 05:41, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Empty pages for speedy deletion

I've added categorization under Category:Empty pages for speedy deletion, similar to Category:Broken redirects for speedy deletion. Quarl (talk) 2006-12-15 11:28Z

[edit] Adding "at least several minutes old"

I suggest inserting "created at least several minutes ago" or similar wording to the reason mentioned on this template, to discourage people from marking a page with db-empty when the page creator has hardly had time to type in much more than the title yet. CSD A1 says "Care should be taken to ensure that valid articles in progress are not deleted." --Coppertwig (talk) 20:26, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
