[edit] Merger
I think the List of Daytona 500 Winners should be moved into this article because they both relate onto the same topic. In addition, the 500 article is a stub, and for most other races the list of winners is in the main article. Thoughts? --D-Day 21:59, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
- The main exception to this is the articles Indianapolis 500 and List of Indianapolis 500 winners. I would agree with the convention that they have started there, that is, describe each race in main article, and have list linked where appropriate, but as a seperate article. Reasoning: Both races' histories are long enough that the list is lengthy, and as such, IMHO, deserves their own artciles. (that, and is bulky and akward in main article, which has already been reason enough for creation of new articles.) So to make a long story short (too late), my thought is to keep as seperate articles, and expand Daytona 500 to include race summaries. -slowpokeiv 15:01, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

- Sounds reasonable to me.

- I also agree as well. NoseNuggets 11:32 PM US EDT September 29, 2005

I'd like to bring back the list of Daytona 500 winners too, and a winner succession box. In that case, should there be articles for each race first like for the Indianapolis 500? Zenmiester 11:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] "Racing into the field"
This is no longer accurate. At the 2005 Daytona 500, the 35 car owners with the highest points from the previous year were guaranteed positions for their cars throughout the coming year in all events, cutting the 'racing in' situation at Daytona to a fraction of its former self (as evidenced by Robby Gordon 'failing' to make the race after placing seventh in a qualifying race). The information should reflect the alteration. --Chr.K. 12:20, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 1988 Daytona 500
Here's a problem... I'm watching a video of Petty's 1988 Daytona crash, and after he came down off the fence, he was only hit by one other car, not two as the article insinuates. I can't make out the number on the car though.... so who was it, Bodine or Foyt? Search4Lancer 17:16, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] woman in racing
Does anyone remember Vicki Wood? She raced #3 and was 150.3 Fastest One Way Run in History of Daytona Beach in 1960 in a Nascar Sanctioned race She was 1st in Daytona for Woman racers and 1st inAtlanta and 1st to run with men in Michigan. She raced at Flat Rock ,Detroit and Toronto. She had short curly dark hair. She had a grayhound on the front side of her car and it looks like Ray Fox Associates sponser along with Pure and others I can't make out. I can't find any info while she Topped Beach Runs and Winner Class 5 Pure OIl Economy run and secound and third in flying mile in 1956. Who is she?
[edit] Pages for individual races
Does anyone think that we should start articles for individual Daytona 500's? F1 has articles for individual Grand Prixs, why not start some for the Daytona 500?--Chaz 23:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Official Name of race
For a few years at the very beginning, the monikor "Daytona 500" was not the official title. For some time, I think it was officially called the "Grand National 500-mile race" or something to that effect. Some research needs to be done. Doctorindy 18:33, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

- According to the program cover fromt the 1959 race...the official title of the first race was First Annual 500 Mile International Sweepstakes....much like the old name of the Indy 500. Doctorindy 15:34, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Also, by the 1961 race, the race was being advertised as the Third Annual "Daytona 500". So there is only a little bit of clarification as to what the 1960 race was advertised as. An old program cover or ticket stub should answer that. Doctorindy 15:43, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fender Telecaster?
The article mentions most network broadcasts only covered the last half; anybody remember the network & year of the notorious cutaway in the closing laps to go to "The Sound of Music"? (Believe it, or not...) Trekphiler 19:11, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 2007 Finish
Why was the caution flag not waved IMMEDIATLY when the final crash started?--BigMac1212 00:22, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Sounds like the officials felt because the crash was happening behind the lead cars a caution would have only complicated the final results of the race worse then they will be. Everyone needs to chill and not be editting this page based on speculation and personal feelings. --Chibiduo 00:45, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
I noticed how it says Stewart's and Busch's crash was "oddly similar" to Dale Earnhardt's fatal crash. I differ in opinion. Earnhardt's crash sent both him and Ken Schrader into the wall, and they missed everyone else. Stewart spun into the wall, then back down into Busch. Completely different.--69.138.129.63 01:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Actually, what they were reffering to was the angle that stewart hit the wall, almost head on. Also it was in near the same place that Earnhardt's crash took place. It was "similar", just not exactly like it72.185.44.3 01:16, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Radiators and the Road Course
Hi!
A short question that came up in the (propably wrong) translated German article: In the section "Memorable Daytona 500s" is a sentence "These cars were equipped with wipers and radiators to combat the sand they faced." The question is, how the radiators fit into this sentence. For me it looks as if radiators in this context refer to water cooled engines because air cooled engines would overheat and blow up due to a blocked radiator by sand. Is this correct? --STBR – !? 10:36, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Flags
Should the flags be in the winners' list? Seems that WP:FLAGS bodes for having them removed. They don't add much information for most people who would not recognize most of those flags at first glance. Further, do they represent birthplace or place of residence at the time of the win? While most of the racers, especially the American ones tend to stay in the state where they were born, this is not always the case. Lastly, why does their state (or country) of origin matter? They're not officially representing that place. They represent themselves, their sponsors and their team owners. ++Arx Fortis (talk) 03:25, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
