Talk:Daxcad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article claims that Racal licensed Daxcad and that it was used as the basis of Racal Redboard. Whilst it is true that Daxcad was licensed it is incorrect to state that it was used in any way as part of Redboard. Racal Redac's Redboard PCB Design software, and its sister product Redlog Schematic Design, were both ports of Racal Redac's earlier CADET software to the IBM PC platform from bespoke Racal Redac hardware (the CADET) which was based on an Intel 8086 single board computer and an HP graphics terminal. The only third party software used in these successful products was the HALO graphics library. The team responsible for these ports was Mike Farrington, David Manns, Glenn Smallcombe and Rob Pavey. Farrington and Manns went on to be the key players in the team that developed the initial version of Cadstar for Racal Redac, which in later variants is still marketed today by Zuken, who aquired Redac from Racal Electronics in 1994.
