Dawid Janczyk (pron. IPA: [ˈdavit ˈjantʂɨk]; born September 23, 1987 in Nowy Sącz, Poland) is a Polish footballer who plays as a center forward for CSKA Moscow. As a result of an impressive U20 World Cup campaign, he signed a 5 year contract with the Russian side on July 12, 2007 from Legia Warszawa. The unofficial transfer fee is estimated at €4.2 million, being the highest transfer fee paid to a Polish club.
He has also represented Poland at the junior level, scoring a hat trick against Belgium at the 2006 UEFA U-19 Championship. At the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, he notched 3 goals in 4 games. Argentina had not lost any goals in the tournament until Janczyk finally scored against them in the second round.
He scored his first goal for CSKA Moscow on August 8, 2007 in a Russian Cup win against FC Khimki (2-0). His first league goal came against FC Spartak Moscow on September 2, 2007 in a 1-1 tie. All 8 of his league appearances thus far have been off the bench. His only start for CSKA has been in the Russian Cup. On October 23, 2007 he made his first appearance in the Champions league for CSKA, coming on in the 76th minute against Internazionale in a 1-2 loss.
Most recently Janczyk has been named by Polish National team coach Leo Beenhakker to the provisional group of 31 players for the 2008 UEFA EURO Cup. From this list the final 23-man squad will be selected giving Janczyk a chance to make his first National team apperance.[1]
He won the Russian Cup 2007/08 with CSKA, scoring in the series of penalties.
