Master Chief (Halo)
I have to say: really nice work so far on getting Master Chief (Halo) up to snuff. Just a thought: Do you think that it might be better to shift the Appearances section to be in real-world chronological order? That is, the plot of Halo: Combat Evolved would come first, then the plot of The Fall of Reach would be introduced as: "The Master Chief's backstory is developed further in the prequel Halo: The Fall of Reach...". — TKD::Talk 17:34, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
- Cool. When I get home tonight, I'll try to remember to check whether I have anything in my collection of sources for Red vs. Blue that mention the Chief as a contrast to the goofball characters of Red vs. Blue, which would at least beef up the connection already mentioned. — TKD::Talk 17:47, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Deleted Races
the Deleted Races facts are canon. According to Bungie. ask them F —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 17:09, August 21, 2007 (UTC).
- Not to be rude (I just noticed this on the talk page while passing through) but by their very nature the deleted species are not "canon." They were concepts that didn't make it past the drawing board, and are no more canon than the original lightsaber color Mace Windu had in AotC before Samuel L. Jackson had it changed to purple. Steve Downes Information
I deleted it because it contradicts itself. Read it. It first says that he has never done work in a video game before going on to state that he was recruited by Martin O'Donnel because of previous work in a video game. It should be deleted or re-written, so I'm taking it out again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tyguy92 (talk • contribs) 17:27, August 21, 2007 (UTC).
Question on Guitar Hero 80s GA hold
Ok, previously you GA reviewed Guitar Hero II, and suggested moving the song list to a separate page (which we're now having a problem that some people see this as cruft and have it up for an AFD, but that's a (likely) separate issue), and while before GA submitting Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s I moved the song list to it's own page, you're suggesting to move it back into the article. I know that list is shorter compared to the GHII list, so I'm wondering if there's another issue that's changed since then, or if it's just because that list is shorter. For consistency across the GH articles, I want to do the same thing, so I'm wondering what your thoughts on those are. --Masem 18:33, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, I've addressed the two other issues on the GA review. --Masem 19:13, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Dr Pepper logo.png
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dr Pepper logo.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hornetman16 (talk) 19:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC)
Image source problem with Image:Dr Pepper logo.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Dr Pepper logo.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hornetman16 (talk) 19:12, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Masterchief theflood.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:Masterchief theflood.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 20:55, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi, David - I just wanted to check in with you. What's your understanding of what the size of non-free images should be? I just want to make sure we're on the same sheet of music. Videmus Omnia Talk 01:27, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have read all of WP:NFCC, including #3. This is the crux: Low- rather than high-resolution/fidelity is used (especially where the original is of such high resolution/fidelity that it could be used for piracy). The picture is a screencapture from Halo.Bungie.Org's cinematics archives. As you can tell, it's already of fairly poor quality, and so I highly doubt someone would use it for piracy purposes. A more extreme example is this one. Mmmm... bad compression. Still, I'll go back through and see if I can find a clearer .png that I can reduce to make everyone happy. David Fuchs (talk) 12:41, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- One more thing: since I keep getting hit with these notices, what's the generally agreed on size for good copies? David Fuchs (talk) 12:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- David, thanks for replying (and for converting the image to PNG). The exact guideline is still under discussion at WT:NFC, but the general parts that seem to be non-controversial (and should keep you from getting any challenges from non-free content geeks like me) is that the size in the image space shouldn't need to be much larger than what would conceivably be needed for display in the article. (With exceptions obviously, but a need for larger size/resolution should probably be mentioned in the rationale for the image.) I've talked to the technician-editors who specialize in non-free image reduction, and they believe the general guideline is about 0.1 megapixels is the accepted upper limit for non-free images. (See Image:John Cleese.jpg for an image of that size.)
-
- I understand, and agree with, the need to have a good representation of the game character in the article. One thing I recommend is cropping the image down from its current letterbox-type format to only include the character you want to show, instead of the whole screen. Then you can devote the whole size allotment to the portion of the image you really need. (See Image:Tomb Raider Natla.png as an example.) I think this would look better in the article as well. With respect - Videmus Omnia Talk 14:32, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey voice of reason, could you give me your two cents?
Some editors told me I should have followed the consensus on the AN/I board on the Michael Moore business yesterday, and I saw that mentioned in later postings. Since you closed the topics (at least one of them, anyway), I'm hoping you can clear up some things for me. I understand consensus, but I'm confused as to (a) what it was on that controversy (some people told me what they thought it was -- to keep the links to the Moore Web site, but I didn't see that); (b) How I'm supposed to understand what it was (from what I saw of your comments in closing the discussions, I didn't see a decision); (c) if there was no consensus does that mean in effect that there is a consensus not to do anything (like take down the Moore website links on my own)? If I had some kind of obligation to follow based on your closing, I'd like to know what you think it was. I appreciate any help you can give me on this point (except a lecture. I don't need a lecture.) Noroton 19:57, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- Crockspot did not "keep referring to WP:EXT." He, ElinorD, and others referred to WP:NPA#External links which says precisely what they say it did. Please reread ElinorD's analysis. THF 22:48, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Reminder to Mentor
Hola Mentors!
Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors
Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.
I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!
Again, thank you for volunteering and you will hear from us again soon! Thelmadatter 19:51, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Thelmadatter

Image:Mal'Ganis has an ankh to grind.jpg
Hi David, I won't claim the image is indispensible, but I think it does illustrate one minor point; it shows that Mal'Ganis is well provisioned with Ankhs; each time he is killed he uses one and drops 3. And it doesn't matter how many times you kill him, until you complete the side quest, he ain't going to die. It's your call. It's no big deal either way. Your Overworld Article
Well, I must say that I'm impressed. I have been in the process of writing an article on the very same topic (as you can see if you visit the page) for a couple of days. I've therefore integrated my material into the page, if you don't mind. One of the things that I didn't think of that I'm glad you put in was a section regarding the music generally heard when wandering overworld areas. Kudos. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Keyes flood.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:Keyes flood.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box.
